RBI MPC Meeting 2026: From April 06 to 08, the RBI Governor- Sanjay Malhotra, led Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), held its first bi-monthly policy meeting for FY27, and on April 08, 2026 (Wednesday), The Reserve Bank of India announced its monetary policy decision. This April meeting of RBI MPC faces the backdrop of heightened global geopolitical tensions due to the US-Israel-Iran war. This conflict has led to a sharp escalation in crude oil prices, resulted in the decline of the rupee and its consequences are likely to be seen across financial markets. However, according to the latest reports, US-Israel and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire deal, and is expected to stop the US-Israel attacks in exchange for reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Repurchase Rate (Repo Rate) is the interest rate at which a country’s central bank, such as The Reserve Bank of India lends money to commercial banks for short-term when in need. It helps to regulate liquidity, manage inflation, and stabilise the economy.

The RBI’s rate setting panel and Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to kept repo rates unchanged at 5.25%, and maintained the policy stance at ‘Neutral.’

RBI projected FY27 GDP growth at 6.9%. It reduced Q1FY27 growth forecast to 6.8% from 6.9%, and Q2FY27 GDP growth approx. 6.7% from 7%. The economic growth estimates for Q3FY27 was 7% and for Q4FY27 was 7.2%. For FY27, the CPI inflation has been projected at 4.6%. The Central Bank maintained Q1FY27 CPI at 4.0%, and raising the Q2FY27 CPI at approx. 4.4%, which was 4.2% earlier. However, the Q3FY27 CPI inflation stood at 5.2% and Q4FY27 CPI at 4.7%.
RBI MPC Meetings: Historical Changes in Repo Rate Time-to-Time
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) typically meets six times a year for three days meeting to decide the repo rate.
Previous Changes in Repo Rate:
• April 2026- 5.25% (Unchanged)
• February 2026- 5.25% (Unchanged)
• December 2025- 5.25% (-25 bps)
• August/October 2025- 5.50% (Unchanged)
In the previous monetary policy, the central bank maintained a status quo on repo rates, and the RBI has already cut the repo rate by a cumulative 125 basis points since February 2025.
