Sensex Today, September 15, 2026: Indian stock market indices started trading positive for Tuesday’s session following five consecutive weeks of declines. The Sensex index jumped 397.37 points or 0.53% to open at 75,369.63 levels, whereas the Nifty 50 added 0.45% to open at 23,503.65.
Sensex Today: Why Is the Sensex Rising Today?
This rally benefited from the purchasing of IT stocks following the latest fall in equity markets. The Nifty IT index rallied by nearly 4%, and HDFC Bank by 3%. Other buyers also sought bargain purchases following the fifth consecutive weekly drop in the indices. Nevertheless, the gains were constrained due to the high levels of crude oil prices, US treasury yields, and the geopolitics in West Asia.
Sensex Today: What Is Happening With Crude Oil?
The Brent crude oil was priced at approximately $107 a barrel, owing to the fears of supply disruption due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Increased crude prices are a significant worry for India since the nation is highly dependent on foreign crude. An increase in crude would increase the cost of imports, weaken the rupee, and increase inflationary pressures.
Sensex Today: What Is Happening With the Rupee?
The rupee was under pressure and likely to reach close to ₹95.80 against the US dollar. With an already weakened rupee, the cost of importing crude oil becomes even more expensive.
Sensex Today: What About FII and DII Activity?
Foreign institutional investors have been on the sell side in the latest available session prior to Tuesday’s market opening. Foreign Institutional Investors sold stocks worth ₹930.90 crore, whereas Domestic Institutional Investors purchased stocks worth ₹1,968.17 crore on September 11. Domestic institutional purchases have certainly provided some stability, but continuous selling by foreign investors is a worry nonetheless.
Sensex Today: Why Are Bond Yields Important?
The US 10-year treasury yield went up to more than 5%, which added pressure to the equities of the emerging markets. The Indian 10-year treasury yield was at 7%.
Sensex Today: What Should Investors Watch Next?
Crude oil prices, unrest in West Asia, the Strait of Hormuz, rupee, global interest rates, and the policy of the US Federal Reserve will be watched carefully by the investors. A strong start to the day is seen as an attempt at recovery, but high oil prices and worries over global interest rates may ensure that the Sensex and Nifty remain volatile.
