Today, the UK’s stock market is expected to open on mixed note, with FTSE 100 futures suggesting a rise of 0.4%. The reason behind this optimism can be attributed to the US non-farm payroll number missing the expectations by a whopping 108,000 figure (actual: -23,000; forecast: +85,000). The economic data has eased concerns about hawkish tightening from the Fed.

The FTSE 100 Index is projected to maintain an upward bias, trading near 10,893.99 with positive morning momentum pushing the index close to the 10,959.94 high mark.

Futures on UK stocks indicated that the FTSE 100 will begin positively, trading at an increase of 0.4 per cent. This is due to the global recovery in markets since weak data from the US Nonfarm payrolls has led to high hopes that there may be interest rate cuts in the coming months by the central banks.

The FTSE 100 was trading close to 10,889.92 levels, helped by the strength in commodity prices. A weak pound has also boosted the export-based companies of the UK.

Stocks to Watch in the UK Market Today

  • Lloyds Banking Group (LLOY): The stock was trading at 115.15p, up 0.39 per cent, with trading volume exceeding 212 million shares. The stock remained supported by expectations of relatively firm bank net interest margins.
  • Vodafone Group (VOD): Shares gained 1.01 per cent to 120.50p, making the telecom major one of the stronger performers in early trading.
  • Diageo (DGE): The stock jumped 3.32 per cent to 1,790.00p, extending its recovery following its latest earnings update.
  • BP (BP.): Shares slipped 0.48 per cent to 517.20p as crude oil prices eased amid ongoing diplomatic developments in the Middle East.
