UK Stock Market Forecast Today (September 7): The FTSE 100 heads into Monday’s session with investors balancing stronger Asian markets against rising oil prices, renewed inflation concerns and growing expectations of higher global interest rates. The FTSE 100 closed Friday at 10,831, while the FTSE 250 gained 0.36%.

London’s market backdrop has become more complicated after Brent crude climbed close to $97 a barrel amid renewed tensions involving the US and Iran. Higher energy prices could keep inflation pressures elevated and make the outlook for interest rates more difficult for investors.

UK Stock Market Forecast Today (September 7): FTSE 100 Opening

The London Stock Exchange is scheduled to open at 8:00 a.m. BST on Monday. The FTSE 100 enters the session from a closing level of 10,831.09 on Friday.

The index has entered the new week without a clear directional signal. Friday’s session ended almost flat after investors remained cautious about UK fiscal concerns, government borrowing costs and the wider inflation outlook. Reuters reported that bond-market volatility continued to influence sentiment across London equities.

The global setup offers some support. Asian technology stocks rallied on Monday, while Japan and South Korea recorded strong gains. However, the rise in crude prices creates a counterweight for European markets because sustained energy inflation can increase pressure on central banks.

UK Stock Market Forecast Today (September 7): FTSE 100 Market Outlook

Oil is likely to remain one of the biggest drivers for the FTSE 100 on Monday.

Brent crude climbed to around $96.97 a barrel, while US crude traded around $92.24, as renewed US-Iran tensions increased concerns about energy supplies and inflation.

Higher crude prices can support major oil producers and energy companies listed in London. However, they can also increase costs for airlines, transport companies, manufacturers and consumers. That creates a complicated setup for the broader index.

Interest-rate expectations also remain important. Stronger-than-expected US employment data has increased expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise rates, while investors are also watching European central-bank policy closely.

UK Stock Market Forecast Today (September 7): Stocks to Watch Today

BP: Oil prices near $97 could keep energy stocks firmly on investors’ radar. BP also appointed Ian Tyler as its permanent chair last week as the company attempts to restore stability following a period of management upheaval.

Shell: The energy giant could also attract attention as crude prices rise. Higher oil prices generally provide a supportive backdrop for major integrated oil companies, although investors will continue watching global demand and geopolitical developments.

Computacenter: The FTSE 100 technology company gained strongly ahead of its results. London Stock Exchange data showed Computacenter at 5,590p, up 4.10% in the latest available trading data, while its first-half results are scheduled for September 8.

Ashmore Group: The asset manager is scheduled to release full-year results on September 7, putting the stock in focus during Monday’s session.

UK Stock Market Forecast Today (September 7): What Should Investors Know?

Investors should watch oil, bond yields, sterling and global rate expectations before taking a strong view on the FTSE 100.

The index has a significant exposure to energy, mining and financial companies, which means commodity prices and global economic trends can have an outsized effect on its performance.

The global picture remains mixed. Asian markets started Monday on a stronger footing, but rising crude prices have revived inflation concerns. Meanwhile, the US market remains closed for the Labor Day holiday, limiting the usual Wall Street signal for European investors.

UK Stock Market Forecast Today (September 7): Key Levels to Watch Today

The FTSE 100 closed Friday at 10,831.09. Technical data for Monday placed the index around a 10,833 pivot, with immediate resistance near 10,836-10,842 and support around 10,824-10,830.

A sustained move above the 10,840 area could improve the short-term tone and put recent highs back into focus. Conversely, a break below the 10,824-10,830 zone could expose the index to additional selling pressure.

The technical picture remains mixed: shorter-term moving averages point to selling pressure, while the 50-day and 100-day averages continue to provide underlying support.

For Monday, traders are therefore likely to focus on whether the FTSE 100 can hold above the 10,800 area while energy stocks respond to higher crude prices.
