US Stock Market Today Updates: US shares receded on Thursday, undoing previous purchases as the Dow Jones dropped 0.32 percent to 49,505, S&P 500 dropped 0.19% to 6,868 and Nasdaq dropped 0.21% at 22,706. Oil crashed above 66 on US-Iran nuclear fears, December trade deficit leaped 33% to 70.3B and Wal-Mart Q4 beat could not keep off Amazon revenue pitch while gold remained unchanged and silver fell on MCX.

Dow lost 0.32% to 49,504.97 with the drag on financials and industrials despite Walmart boosting it with fell intra-day by 0.4% in the early part of the day, which indicated that people were selling after previous records amid trade data despondency.

Nasdaq

Nasdaq fell 0.21 to 22,706.14 and ended the run of tech as semiconductors such as Intel and Lam fell while Megacap rotation continued, but AMD gained 1.14%.

S&P 500

The S&P 500 fell 0.19 or by 6,868.27 and 8 sectors dropped, Accenture dropped 5.12 with Eight out of 11 industries were down and underline rotation towards cyclicals as opposed to growth.

NYSE

NYSE Composite dropped 0.23% in the area of 18,142, which reflected a general mistrust where volume remained high since oil bets overcame sentiment-draining trade deficit.

Oil Climbs on Iran Tensions

WTI crude shot beyond 66 ( +2.16%), Brent beyond 71.60 ( +11% monthly) amidst the US-Iran nuclear standoff that intensified through Trump messages. The supply fears, fuelled by the Strait of Hormuz risks, which is 20M bdf in throughput will carry on with Wednesday pop at 3%.

US Trade Deficit Widens 30%

December goods/services gap increased by 33 percent to $70.3B, second consecutive monthly record vs. 55.5B envisage. Full 2025 deficit is $901.5B (no change YoY), goods stand at 1.24T up 2.1% and tariffs are tested.

Walmart Dethroned by Revenue

Walmart reported Q4 net $5.25B (65c/share), sales growth of +5.6 to $190.7b, but FY prognosis is weak. Amazon FY2025 of $716.9B exceeded Walmart of $713.5B, e-com/ad growth (24%/37) not sufficient to sit on retail throne.

MCX Gold Flat & Silver Slips

MCX gold futures rose marginally by a mere 0.05% to Rs 1,55,835 per 10 grams whereas silver futures plummeted by 0.98% to Rs 2,41,883 per kg. IBJA evening rates revealed that gold futures were up by 1.82% to Rs 1,54,735 per 10 grams, whereas silver futures were up by 3.37% to Rs 2,44,772 per kg. Internationally, Comex gold futures fell by 0.14% to $5,002.50 per oz due to mixed market sentiments triggered by the Fed's hawk

Bitcoin & Crypto Volumes $5.95T

January volumes in crypto were 5.95T (2.43% MoM) and spot 1.55T while BTC of 66,456 (-1.53% to Feb 19), 30% lower than 95K high, is trading at 19.99M BTC.
