House of the Dragon Season 3 delivers one of Rhaena Targaryen’s biggest moments as she finally bonds with the wild dragon Sheepstealer. After spending much of the story searching for a dragon of her own, Rhaena earns the trust of the untamed beast which gives Team Black another powerful dragon ahead of the war.
But her first appearance in battle does not go as planned.
During the Battle of the Gullet, Rhaena flies Sheepstealer into combat hoping to help her family. But because Sheepstealer is a wild dragon with no battle experience, the dragon reacts unpredictably. When Rhaena commands “Dracarys,” Sheepstealer unleashes fire but blows flames across the battlefield without a clear target instead of attacking the enemy fleet.
Seeing the chaos from above, Jacaerys Velaryon and Baela Targaryen move in as they believe the mysterious rider could be an enemy. As they close in, Jace realises the rider is actually Rhaena and immediately pulls back to avoid attacking her. That split second of hesitation proves costly. Vermax is struck by enemy which sends the dragon crashing down while Jace is hit by arrows. Both of them die.
