Janhvi Kapoor is choosing to focus on upcoming opportunities instead of the backlash surrounding her latest release Peddi. As per the reports, the actress is currently in talks with the director of Tumbbad, Rahi Anil Barve, for a high-concept creature horror film. The project marks a new addition to the genres Janhvi has explored on the big screen yet.
According to a source quoted by Pinkvilla, “Janhvi Kapoor is currently reading scripts and discussing potential projects for her next feature film. She has shown keen interest in the creature horror film to be directed by Rahi Anil Barve. The prep work is already underway, and the makers are hoping to begin production later this year.”
Janhvi Kapoor To Undergo Extensive Preparation
The source added that Janhvi’s role in the film demands extensive preparation adding that she will undergo workshops after the paperwork is completed.
“It’s a never-done-before role for Janhvi and one that demands extensive preparation. She is expected to sign the dotted lines soon. Once the paperwork is completed, the actress will undergo intensive acting workshops to get into the skin of the character and understand the nuances of the world being created,” the source continued.
Rahi Anil Barve, who directed the cult horror-fantasy Tumbbad, is developing the film as a large-scale creature horror. The project, backed by Jio Studios, is expected to go on floors later this year.
What Is Peddi Controversy About
Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi has been the subject of criticism ever since its arrival in theatres. The reason? Janhvi’s objectification in the film. Fans pointed out that the makers tried to oversexualise her role instead of giving narrative weight to her character, Achiyamma.
What Did Director Buchi Babu Sana Say
As the backlash intensified, Buchi Babu came out giving his clarification. In his statement, he wrote, “As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously. I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character.”
Starring Ram Charan, the pan-Indian film was released in cinemas worldwide on June 4, 2026.
