Malayalam film Thudakkam has finally hit theatres today, August 7. It introduces a new face to the industry. The Jude Anthany Joseph directorial marks the acting debut of Vismaya Mohanlal, daughter of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal.
While Vismaya belongs to one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated film families, she has taken a different route to the silver screen. Before stepping in front of the camera, she explored writing, theatre and martial arts.
Who Is Vismaya Mohanlal?
Vismaya Mohanlal was born on March 27, 1994, in Thiruvananthapuram to Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Suchitra, daughter of late film producer K. Balaji. She is the younger sister of actor Pranav Mohanlal who made his debut as a child artiste before becoming a leading man in Malayalam cinema.
Unlike many star kids who enter films in their early twenties, Vismaya has made her acting debut at the age of 32.
From Published Poet To Actor
Long before facing the camera, Vismaya pursued creative interests outside cinema. She studied theatre in Prague, London and US.
She is also a published author. Her book, Grains of Stardust, is a collection of poems written over the years. The book received praise from several quarters with Amitabh Bachchan sharing his appreciation on X (formerly Twitter) and calling her talent “hereditary.”
Apart from writing, Vismaya has also explored photography. Vismaya also underwent a major personal transformation before making her film debut.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she stayed back in Thailand after travel restrictions came into effect and used the time to train in Muay Thai. The training became an important part of her fitness journey as it helped her lose around 22 kg.
Vismaya is the second of Mohanlal’s children to enter the film industry after Pranav Mohanlal.
Pranav began acting as a child artiste before making his debut as a lead actor with Aadhi in 2018. He has since appeared in films such as Hridayam, Varshangalkku Shesham and Diés Iraé.
About Thudakkam
Thudakkam revolves around Meenu, played by Vismaya Mohanlal, who leads a quiet life with her father, portrayed by Sai Kumar, in a secluded home nestled amid the hills. Their peaceful world is thrown into turmoil when an unexpected threat turns their lives upside down. This pushes Meenu to confront danger and rely on her courage to fight for survival.
Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, Thudakkam also stars Saikumar, Aashish Joe Antony, T G Ravi, Ganesh Kumar and Chippy in pivotal roles. Mohanlal makes a special cameo appearance in the film.
