2001’s Lagaan is one of the most iconic sports related films in Indian cinema. Now reports suggest that Ashutosh Gowariker and Aamir Khan will reunite 25 years after the release of Lagaan, for another sports drama.Â

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Lagaan is a period drama and sports film starring Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne. It marked the Bollywood debut of Gracy Singh, who was more known as a TV actress at the time.Â
The sports film received massive critical acclaim upon release for its plot, direction, soundtrack and anti imperialism stance. Lagaan is one of the most iconic films of Aamir Khan, who forayed into film production for the first time with the project.Â
The Upcoming Project: What We Know So FarÂ
Details of the new project are mostly kept under wraps. The project is currently in the advanced scripting stage. According to reports, Rajkumar Hirani and Prabhat Joshi have also come onboard for the project. Hirani and Joshi are known to be frequent collaborators.Â
A formal announcement of the film is expected to be made on 15th June, which will be set against the backdrop of partition.
The Upcoming Project: Genre
An official genre for the upcoming film hasn’t been shared yet. But reports suggest that it will be a biopic, based on the life of legendary cricketer Lala Amarnath. Amarnath, who received accolades like the Padma Bhushan and CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, is often considered to be the father of Indian cricket.
He passed away in 1990 and is survived by three sons, Mohinder, Surinder and Rajinder, who are also cricketers. Â
