BAFTA Film Awards 2026: The 79th BAFTA Film Awards, held in London at the Royal Festival Hall, represented a year of outstanding films. The event was characterized by outstanding performances and shocking victories that dominated the headlines with stiff competition in all the categories, the event represented a mix of historical dramas, thrillers and biographies that left the audience in suspense until the end.
Jessie Buckley won the Best Leading Actress award, due to her touching performance in Hamnet. Buckley was competing with Emma Stone (Bugonia), Rose Byrne (if I Had Legs Id Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another) and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), where the cast was honored with critical acclaim due to her subtle performance. Her role as Agnes Hathaway who is struggling with the death of her son touched the hearts of viewers and critics alike.
Robert Aramayo also shocked the voter by winning the Best Actor category, overcoming Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme) and other nominees (Leonardo DiCaprio, One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke, Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan, Sinners, Jesse Plemons, Bugonia). Scottish biographical I Swear, 2025 is a film about John Davidson who has Tourette’s syndrome and the role of Aramayo is filled with both weakness and strength.
At the same time Hamnet was getting awards in the field of critical acting, the film One Battle After Another overpowered other nominations such as Hamnet and Sinners in various technical and creative fields. The political thriller established itself as a movie of the year with 14 nominations topping the season.
