There is already plenty of curiosity around Batwara 1947 and now the film has received its first review ahead of its theatrical release. Starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol and Ali Fazal, the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India and has been backed by Aamir Khan Productions.
The film is scheduled to release on August 14 but producer Ramesh Taurani has already watched it at a special screening and had plenty to say about it. Taking to Instagram, Taurani called the film deeply sensitive and moving and praised the way it highlights humanity during one of the darkest periods in Indian history.

Ramesh Taurani Has Big Praise For Batwara 1947 Cast
Taurani did not stop at Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. He also singled out Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol by praising all three for bringing intensity and authenticity to their respective characters.
He also had a special mention for Abhimanyu Singh, who plays the villain in the film. According to Taurani, the actor manages to make his character both compelling and unsettling.
For Preity Zinta, the review marks an especially interesting mention as the actress returns to the big screen in a period drama alongside Sunny Deol. Taurani described it as a joy to watch her on screen again, while his comments about Sunny Deol point towards a performance that appears to be one of the film’s major strengths.
What Is Batwara 1947 About?
As the title suggests, Batwara 1947 takes audiences back to the Partition of 1947. The story follows a family whose life changes dramatically as violence and fear spread through communities that had once lived alongside each other.
Forced migration becomes a major part of the family’s struggle as people are pushed away from their homes and separated from the lives they once knew. But the film is not only about the devastation caused by Partition. Its story also looks at how people respond when faced with hatred, violence and loss.
Rajkumar Santoshi Gets A Shoutout
Taurani also praised director Rajkumar Santoshi for handling the story with emotion and humanity. He credited the filmmaker with creating a film that can strike an emotional chord while keeping its focus on the people at the centre of the story.
He also congratulated producer Aparna Purohit and Aamir Khan Productions for backing the project, calling Batwara 1947 a beautifully made film with a powerful message.
Batwara 1947 vs Awarapan 2
Batwara 1947 will arrive in theatres on August 14 alongside Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2. The two films are also targeting very different audience expectations.
Awarapan 2 comes with the built-in nostalgia of the 2007 cult favourite Awarapan, which gives the sequel an established fan base even before its release. Batwara 1947, meanwhile, has the star power of Sunny Deol, a large ensemble cast and the appeal of a story set around one of the most significant periods in Indian history.
