Travis Scott has shared how an unexpected phone call from Christopher Nolan led to his acting debut in The Odyssey. The rapper admitted he was initially confused by the call and even questioned why the Oscar-winning filmmaker wanted him in a movie. Looking back, Scott said he was “nervous” but trusted Nolan without hesitation.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Scott recalled seeing “Chris” flash on his phone. At first, he assumed it couldn’t possibly be Christopher Nolan calling with a film offer.

He said, “My phone went off and it just said, ‘Chris.’ And I’m thinking, ‘OK, I don’t know what this is about. Maybe he wants to go to a show?'”

However, the conversation quickly took an unexpected turn. Scott said Nolan asked him, “Would you be interested in acting in a movie?”

The rapper admitted he was caught off guard and wanted to know more before saying yes. “I mean, I guess, you know? What’s the [role]?”

Travis Scott Joked With Christopher Nolan

Still surprised that Nolan had approached him for a film, Scott jokingly reminded the director about his profession. “Whoa, hold on. Wait. You know I make music?”

According to Scott, Nolan then explained why he wanted him to be a part of The Odyssey. While the rapper did not reveal details of the conversation or his role, he said the filmmaker’s confidence was enough to convince him. Scott admitted he felt “nervous” about stepping into acting but said working with Nolan made the decision an easy one.

Travis Scott Calls Christopher Nolan ‘Real Mentor’

Speaking about his relationship with the director, Scott described Nolan as someone he deeply admires beyond filmmaking. In his words, “I really enjoy his time. I’m really inspired by him. He’s a real mentor of mine outside of this.”

He added that there was never any hesitation once Nolan asked him to join the project. Recalling the chat, he continued, “So I’m like, ‘Yo, whatever you’re down with, I’m down. However it goes, I’m with it.'”

Travis Scott’s Acting Debut In The Odyssey

The Odyssey marks Scott’s first major acting role. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic and features an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie and Mia Goth.

In ‘The Odyssey’, Scott plays Demodocus, the bard who narrates Odysseus’ journey in the opening scene and becomes the first voice and face audiences see in the film.

FYI, Scott and Nolan had previously collaborated on the soundtrack for Nolan’s 2020 film ‘Tenet’, which starred Pattinson. Apart from acting in the film, Scott also recorded the original song “When I’m Home” for the closing credits of ‘The Odyssey’, alongside James Blake. The song was produced by the film’s composer Ludwig Goransson, while Nolan is credited as a co-writer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Odyssey is now playing in theatres.
