The wait is finally over! The makers of Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story have dropped the film’s first poster on Sourav Ganguly’s birthday and Rajkummar Rao has recreated one of Sourav Ganguly’s most iconic moments in style.Â
But that’s not all. Along with the poster, the makers also announced that the sports biopic will arrive in theatres on May 14, 2027.
Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story: Rajkummar Brings Dada’s Most Iconic Moment To Life
The first poster takes fans straight back to one of the biggest moments in Indian cricket history. Rajkummar is seen shirtless, proudly waving the blue Team India jersey from the Lord’s balcony while the Indian tricolour flies in the background. It recreates Ganguly’s unforgettable celebration after India’s dramatic victory over England in the NatWest Series final.
The poster reads, “Rajkummar Rao in & as Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story.” At the bottom, it announces the release date, “14 May 2027,” along with the tagline, “He didn’t just play the game, he changed it.”
Rajkummar shared the first look on social media with a birthday wish for the cricket legend. He captioned the post, “Happy Birthday our dearest Dada,” while tagging Sourav Ganguly.
The birthday surprise clearly impressed Ganguly as well. Sharing the poster on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “The Best Gift Ever! Can’t wait to see you play my cover drive!”

Celebrities And Fans Are Already Cheering
In the comment section, Rajkummar’s wife and actor Patralekhaa reacted with fire emojis while Vicky Jain also dropped fire emojis on the post.
Actor Parmeet Sethi couldn’t hide his excitement and commented, “Congrats bro!! So looking forward to this one!!”
Fans were equally thrilled after seeing Rajkummar step into Dada’s shoes. One user wrote, “Really excited for this as cricket fan and especially to see Rajkummar Rao portray this.”
Another commented, “It looks amazing. Started giving me goosebumps. Eagerly waiting Dada.”
The Story Behind That Legendary Shirt Wave
The recreated moment goes back to July 13, 2002, when India chased down a mammoth target of 326 against England in the NatWest Series final at Lord’s. Youngsters Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif scripted a stunning comeback before Ganguly celebrated in unforgettable fashion by taking off his shirt and waving it from the famous balcony.
The celebration was widely seen as Ganguly’s response to England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff who had taken off his shirt after England defeated India at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium months earlier. Over the years, the image has become one of the defining moments of Indian cricket.
