The much-awaited third installment of the Drishyam franchise is gearing up for a theatrical release. Scheduled to hit cinemas on May 21, the release date holds special significance as it coincides with Mohanlal’s 66th birthday. Even before the film is out, Drishyam 3 has scripted history in terms of advance ticket booking. The movie has surpassed the final pre-sales record of the Patriot, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal on BookMyShow.
While Patriot concluded its advance sales with around 333,000 tickets, Drishyam 3 has now crossed the 334,000-ticket mark. The Mohanlal film has emerged as the second-highest Malayalam pre-seller ever on the platform, reported Sacnilk. Now, the only film ahead remains L2: Empuraan with its massive 1.33 million ticket benchmark.

What makes the feat even more remarkable is that Drishyam 3 belongs to the suspense-thriller genre, unlike the action-heavy blockbusters that usually dominate pre-sales charts. The film has now become the first pure investigative drama in Mollywood history to generate this scale of pre-release frenzy.
According to current trends, the movie is selling close to 30,000 tickets every 24 hours. In Kerala alone, Day 1 advance bookings have already crossed Rs 5 crore, with more than two lakh tickets sold across the state. Cities including Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode are witnessing extraordinary demand, with several early-morning fan shows already sold out. More than 1,200 screenings are currently being tracked statewide, and occupancy levels continue to surge as release day nears.
Even globally, the film is registering phenomenal numbers. Drishyam 3 has crossed Rs 15 crore in worldwide opening-day advances, with the Gulf region emerging as the strongest overseas market. The United Kingdom has also reported strong momentum, with thousands of tickets already sold and many premiere shows nearing housefull status.
North America is also witnessing impressive traction. Estimates suggest that the opening-day collections in the region could touch between Rs 2 crore and Rs 2.5 crore. This will make the flick one of the fastest Malayalam releases to cross the 1,000-ticket milestone.
Drishyam 3 Storyline And Cast
Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 is expected to continue the gripping story of Georgekutty and his family after the shocking events of the second film. The storyline explores the consequences of past secrets resurfacing once again, as Georgekutty faces his toughest challenge yet tries to protect his family. Alongside Mohanlal, the film features returning cast members including Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil and Murali Gopy in pivotal roles.
With two days still left for release, Drishyam 3 is expected to further strengthen its position among Malayalam cinema’s biggest openers. While overtaking L2: Empuraan’s all-time record may remain difficult, the film has already created a new benchmark for thriller films in South. Backed by the legacy of the franchise and the birthday celebrations surrounding Mohanlal, Georgekutty’s final chapter appears all set for a historic box-office debut.
