Drishyam 3: The Conclusion has turned into a major talking point at the box office, with Ajay Devgn returning as Vijay Salgaonkar for what was billed as the final chapter of the Hindi franchise. The film’s strong theatrical response has now left fans with another question: will there be a Drishyam 4? The answer, however, depends on which Drishyam franchise you are talking about.
While Ajay Devgn’s Hindi version has been positioned as the conclusion of Vijay Salgaonkar’s story, the original Malayalam franchise starring Mohanlal is set to continue with a fourth instalment.
So, yes, there will be another Drishyam film. But don’t expect Ajay Devgn to return as Vijay Salgaonkar in it, based on the current statements from the Hindi makers.
Will There Be Drishyam 4 With Ajay Devgn?
For now, no. Director Abhishek Pathak has described Drishyam 3: The Conclusion as the final film in the Hindi franchise. He has said that the title was chosen because the makers wanted to bring Vijay Salgaonkar’s story to a proper conclusion rather than leave the door open for another sequel.
Ajay Devgn has also spoken about the difficulty of continuing the franchise after Drishyam 2. The team needed a story that could live up to the expectations created by the first two films. Once the writers found the story for the third film, the makers decided to take the franchise to its conclusion.
Is Drishyam 4 Confirmed With Mohanlal?
Yes. The Malayalam franchise is continuing. Producer Antony Perumbavoor has confirmed that Drishyam 4 will be made with the original Malayalam franchise. Mohanlal plays Georgekutty in the Malayalam films, while Jeethu Joseph is the director who created the franchise. The confirmation means the story of Georgekutty is not over yet.
However, the makers have not revealed all the details surrounding the fourth film. There is currently no confirmed release date or complete plot information for Drishyam 4. So fans will have to wait for further announcements regarding production, cast and release plans.
Why Is There A Drishyam 4 With Mohanlal But Not Ajay Devgn?
The Hindi and Malayalam franchises started from the same basic source, but they are no longer following exactly the same storyline. The first two Hindi Drishyam films were adaptations of the Malayalam movies, with Ajay Devgn playing Vijay Salgaonkar and Mohanlal playing Georgekutty in the original. But the third Hindi film takes a different route.
Abhishek Pathak has previously said that the Hindi Drishyam 3 has a completely different screenplay and story from the Malayalam version. Mohanlal’s Georgekutty can continue into a fourth Malayalam film without requiring Ajay Devgn’s Vijay Salgaonkar to do the same.
Is Drishyam 3 Really The Final Film For Ajay Devgn?
As far as the current statements from the Hindi makers are concerned, yes. The film is officially titled Drishyam: The Conclusion, and Pathak has described it as the end of the Hindi franchise. Ajay has also indicated that the third film was developed as a conclusion rather than another setup for a future sequel.
What Will Drishyam 4 With Mohanlal Be About?
The plot of the Malayalam Drishyam 4 has not been revealed in full. That is perhaps the biggest question surrounding the announcement. Georgekutty has already survived multiple attempts to expose his family’s secrets, and the fourth film will have to take his story somewhere new.
Director Jeethu Joseph has previously indicated that he would only continue the franchise if there was a strong enough story to justify another chapter.
