Ranbir Kapoor is all set to portray Lord Ram in Ramayan but there is an interesting chapter from his past that has suddenly become worth revisiting. A couple of years ago, when Adipurush was about to hit theatres in 2023, Ranbir had reportedly sponsored 10,000 tickets for underprivileged children.
The actor was not part of Adipurush nor were those tickets bought for himself. Instead, they were reportedly meant to give children an opportunity to watch the Prabhas starrer with the tickets being distributed through various NGOs across the Hindi speaking belt.
And now, with Ranbir at the centre of the much-awaited Ramayana, that old connection has found its way back into the conversation.
Ranbir Kapoor Had Sponsored 10,000 Tickets For Prabhas’ Adipurush
Ahead of the release of Adipurush in June 2023, Ranbir reportedly decided to book 10,000 tickets for children who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to watch the film in theatres.
The tickets were intended to be distributed among underprivileged children through NGOs in different parts of the Hindi speaking belt. It was an interesting gesture from an actor who had no direct involvement with the film especially since Adipurush was one of the year’s most talked about releases even before it reached cinemas.
At the time, the film was being presented as a large-scale retelling of the Ramayana with Prabhas playing Raghava and Kriti Sanon portraying Janaki.
Why Is Adipurush Suddenly Back In Spotlight?
With Ranbir’s Ramayana becoming a major talking point, Adipurush has unexpectedly returned to social media conversations. Scenes from the Prabhas starrer are being pulled out for memes and reels with users once again taking aim at the film’s VFX, character designs and overall visual treatment.
The backlash went beyond the visuals. Several viewers also objected to the film’s dialogues, particularly Hanuman’s lines, which were criticised for being too casual for a character from the Ramayana.
Adipurush also saw its box office collections drop sharply after a strong opening as negative word of mouth spread.
Who Was In Adipurush?
Directed by Om Raut, Adipurush featured Prabhas as Raghava, Kriti Sanon as Janaki, Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh, Sunny Singh as Lakshman and Devdatta Nage as Bajrang.
Now Ranbir Kapoor Is Playing Lord Ram
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram with Sai Pallavi playing Sita. The film also features Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman alongside a large ensemble cast.
The first part is scheduled to arrive in theatres on Diwali this year which is November 8, 2026. Meanwhile, the second part is planned for Diwali 2027.
