The 2026 Emmy Awards have delivered an unexpected twist for Spider-Noir. Just days after Prime Video and MGM+ cancelled the Nicolas Cage-led series after one season, the show walked away with five Emmy Awards during Night Two of the 78th Emmy Awards.
The series had been one of Prime Video’s biggest contenders at this year’s Emmys as it collected 11 nominations. Despite knowing that it would not return for another season, Spider-Noir still managed to turn its awards campaign into a major success.
Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir Wins 5 Emmys: Full List
The series picked up five awards across cinematography, stunts, title design, sound and visual effects.
Darran Tiernan won Outstanding Cinematography for a One-Hour Series for the premiere episode, “Step Into My Office.”
Freddy Bouciegues and Hugh Aodh O’Brien took home the award for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for Comedy Programming.
The show also won Emmys for Outstanding Title Design, Outstanding Sound Editing and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode.
The wins make the timing particularly unusual: Spider-Noir was cancelled just as its awards recognition was beginning to peak.
Nicolas Cage Responds To Spider-Noir Cancellation
Nicolas Cage, who led the series as Ben Reilly, has now addressed the decision to end Spider-Noir.
Cage played an ageing private investigator and masked hero navigating 1930s New York, with the role marking his first regular television series. Rather than expressing disappointment over the show’s future, however, the actor appears to be looking at his time on the series as a complete creative experience.
“For me, one season is perfect,” Cage said in a statement to Deadline, adding that he said everything he wanted to say with his dangerous, pop-art take on Spider-Man.
He ended his response with: “Onwards, upwards, inwards.”
Cage had previously indicated that a second season was far from certain. In June, he told Variety that he did not know whether the show would return, while also saying that the team had accomplished what it set out to do.
Who Stars In Spider-Noir?
Alongside Cage, Spider-Noir featured Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson.
The series received a 92 per cent critics score and a 90 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite its strong critical and audience reception and an impressive Emmy showing, Spider-Noir will not get a second season.
