This year’s ceremony will have a new face at the helm. Mariska Hargitay, best known for her long-running role on Law & Order: SVU, will host the Primetime Emmy Awards for the first time.
The actor said she was honoured to take on the role, particularly during a significant year for NBC.
“Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career. It’s my great honour to host the 78th Emmy Awards, in the 100th birthday year of my beloved NBC, and celebrate this extraordinary community of storytelling,” she said.
Which Shows Lead The Emmy Awards 2026 Nominations?
When it comes to nominations, The Pitt is leading the overall field with 25 nominations. The HBO medical drama has emerged as one of the biggest forces of this year’s awards race.
Hacks follows closely with 24 nominations and has made Emmy history as the most-nominated comedy series ever.
The other major contenders include DTF St. Louis, The Bear, All Her Fault, The Gilded Age, Abbott Elementary, Only Murders in the Building and Euphoria.
Michael J. Fox To Receive The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award
One of the most meaningful moments of the ceremony will come when Michael J. Fox receives the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award during the Primetime telecast.
The honour recognises Fox’s decades of work surrounding Parkinson’s disease research and advocacy. It is also an exceptionally rare Emmy honour: since the award was introduced in 2002, it has been presented only six times.
Previous recipients include Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney and Sean Penn, while last year’s honour went to Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.
Fox is also part of this year’s Emmy race in another capacity. He has received his 19th Emmy nomination for his guest appearance in Apple TV’s Shrinking.
