What Happened During The July 20 Parliament March?
The controversy comes in the backdrop of the CJP’s “Chalo Sansad” march on July 20. Thousands of protesters attempted to march towards Parliament demanding education reforms, action over repeated exam paper leaks and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Delhi Police stopped the march, and cited the absence of permission. This led to clashes in which police used tear gas and batons to disperse protesters. Several demonstrators and opposition leaders were detained. Videos from the protest triggered criticism and prompted many public figures to speak out.
Delhi Police has, however, denied allegations of the usage of pellet guns against protesters. They have maintained that it acted in accordance with the law.
