Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has finally hit theatres across the world, but even before many fans could watch it, social media was flooded with claims that the film had already leaked online. So, is the entire movie available on the internet? Has a major spoiler really been leaked? Here’s a quick fact check.

Has The Odyssey Leaked Online?

Yes, to some extent. But, not the entire movie. What has surfaced are a few clips and images from the movie after The Odyssey started playing in some international markets ahead of its release in other countries. These short videos quickly made their way to social media, leading many people to believe that the entire film had leaked.

Why Is Everyone Talking About Elliot Page?

One leaked clip, in particular, has grabbed everyone’s attention. It shows Elliot Page’s character dying early in the film and it has reignited an old fan theory. When the first trailer dropped, many viewers believed Page was playing Achilles, the legendary warrior from The Iliad. The reason? A scene in the trailer showed the character speaking to Matt Damon’s Odysseus in what looked like the Underworld. But was the theory right? No.

So, Who Is Elliot Page Actually Playing?

According to the leaked footage, Elliot Page is not playing Achilles. Instead, the actor plays Sinon, a young soldier and Odysseus’ cousin. In the leaked scene, Sinon is asked to present the famous Trojan Horse to the Trojans as an offering to the goddess Athena. Before he can complete the mission, he is struck by arrows and spears and dies.

Later, when Odysseus visits the Underworld, he meets Sinon’s spirit. The emotional conversation forces Odysseus to confront the sacrifices he made during the Trojan War.

Does This Happen In Homer’s The Odyssey?

The leaked scene has also sparked another debate. Some people on social media claimed Christopher Nolan replaced Achilles with Sinon. But that’s not true.

Odysseus does visit the Underworld in Homer’s epic and speaks to several spirits during his journey. Nolan appears to have added his own interpretation by expanding Sinon’s role, but the Underworld sequence itself is inspired by the original story.

What Is The Final Verdict?

The claim is only partly true. Yes, some clips and images from The Odyssey have appeared online after early international screenings. But no, the full movie has not leaked. The viral clips have mainly cleared up one big mystery, they confirm that Elliot Page is playing Sinon, not Achilles, as many fans had guessed after the trailer.
