Marvel Studios’ post Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars plans are becoming clearer, and 2028 is shaping up to be a particularly busy year for the MCU. The studio has now locked in the release date for Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider. This adds another major superhero film to a year that already includes the new X-Men movie and Black Panther 3. With three MCU films lined up for 2028, Marvel appears to be preparing for a major new chapter after Secret Wars.
When Is Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider Releasing?
Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider will hit theatres on July 28, 2028. Marvel Studios had already confirmed Gosling as the star of the upcoming solo film.
Ghost Rider will be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine. The upcoming film will be Levy’s second Marvel project. Jonathan Tropper has written the screenplay and is also working with Levy and Gosling on Star Wars: Starfighter, which is scheduled to arrive in 2027.
The July release slot also gives Ghost Rider a prominent place in Marvel’s theatrical calendar, with the film arriving just a few months after the new X-Men movie.
When Is The New X-Men Movie Releasing?
The new X-Men movie will hit theatres on May 5, 2028 which will make it the first of Marvel’s three confirmed 2028 theatrical releases. The untitled film is directed by Jake Schreier and will introduce a new group of actors as some of Marvel’s most recognisable mutants.
Who Is Playing The New X-Men?
Marvel has revealed a star-studded cast for the upcoming mutant reboot. Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey while Kit Connor will portray Cyclops. Christopher Abbott has been cast as Professor X and Samara Weaving will play Emma Frost.
The lineup also includes Inde Navarrette as Rogue and Maya Boyd as Storm. Perhaps the biggest surprise is Adam Driver, who will play the X-Men villain Mister Sinister.
Sadie Sink’s casting is especially interesting because her Jean Grey has already been connected to the MCU through Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said the character’s introduction came naturally from the story.
When Is Black Panther 3 Releasing?
Black Panther 3 is scheduled to release in theatres on December 15, 2028 which will make it the final confirmed MCU theatrical release of that year. Ryan Coogler is returning to direct the third instalment.
David Jonsson has been cast as the new Black Panther. He will play Prince T’Challa II, the son of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. The character was introduced as a child in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever but the third film will follow him as he grows into the role.
Letitia Wright will return as Shuri while Winston Duke will reprise his role as M’Baku.
How Do Avengers: Doomsday And Secret Wars Connect To These Movies?
Before Marvel reaches its 2028 slate, audiences will get Avengers: Doomsday which is scheduled to release on December 18 followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. These two films are expected to be major turning points for the MCU and could reshape the franchise before the three 2028 movies arrive.
