Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s much-awaited reunion has finally arrived in theatres, but Haiwaan has had a slow start at the box office. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film earned around Rs 3 crore nett in India on its opening day, according to Sacnilk. The film recorded approximately 11 per cent occupancy across 7,224 shows on Day 1.

Its estimated India gross stood at around Rs 3.60 crore, while the overseas gross was approximately Rs 1 crore. This puts Haiwaan’s worldwide opening-day gross at around Rs 4.60 crore.

Haiwaan Box Office Collection Day 1

The Rs 3 crore India nett opening is modest for a film headlined by two established stars and directed by Priyadarshan. The film’s 11 per cent occupancy suggests that audience turnout remained limited on its first day, despite the curiosity surrounding Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan sharing the screen again after 17 years.

A substantial jump on Saturday and Sunday could help the film build momentum, particularly if word of mouth works in its favour.

Haiwaan Box Office Collection Day 1: Comparison With Akshay Kumar And Saif Ali Khan’s Earlier Films

Interestingly, Haiwaan’s opening can also be placed against some of the actors’ earlier releases. For Akshay Kumar, the film’s reported India gross of Rs 3.60 crore is lower than the opening of Bhool Bhulaiyaa which had collected around Rs 3.88 crore on its first day, according to Box Office India.

For Saif Ali Khan, Haiwaan has opened in a similar range to Ta Ra Rum Pum. The 2007 film reportedly recorded an opening-day collection of approximately Rs 3.66 crore.

Hanuman Ansh And Mirzapur Continue To Rule Box Office

Haiwaan has not entered theatres in isolation. Hanuman Ansh continues to hold strongly even after completing 36 days in cinemas. The film reportedly collected Rs 10.50 crore on its sixth Friday, taking its estimated total to Rs 173.63 crore.

Mirzapur The Movie is also proving to be a formidable competitor. The film reportedly earned around Rs 9 crore on its second Friday, taking its India total to approximately Rs 157.45 crore. That puts both films comfortably ahead of Haiwaan’s opening-day numbers, at least for now.

What Is Haiwaan About?

Haiwaan marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, who were last seen together in films including Tashan. The Priyadarshan directorial follows Shyam, a blind caretaker who finds himself accused of murdering retired Judge Pradhan.

As vengeful killer Parshuram goes after Pradhan’s daughter Nandini, Shyam escapes from the police and tries to protect her. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when Shyam discovers a shocking secret about Nandini.

The film reportedly carries a budget of around Rs 130 crore, including approximately Rs 115 crore in production costs and another Rs 15 crore on print and advertising, according to a Times of India report.
