Hayden Panettiere’s memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning was published in May 2026. It was touted as an intensely personal account of childhood fame, addiction, motherhood, abuse and grief. Just months later, her death at 36 has cast an even darker shadow over some of the revelations mentioned in the book. Hayden was found unresponsive at her home in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16. Her death remains under probe, and authorities have not announced a final cause of death.

At one point, a doctor reportedly gave her a stark warning: if she continued drinking at the same level, she could die within five years. The warning became a turning point and contributed to her decision to seek intensive treatment.
