Christopher Nolan, Tom Holland and Matt Damon gave fans a delightful surprise before attending the Mumbai premiere of The Odyssey. Instead of heading straight to the red carpet, the trio took a break for a cup of desi chai and bun maska at Mumbai’s iconic Olympia Coffee House in Colaba.
Photos from their visit were shared by Universal Pictures India which showed the filmmaker and actors enjoying tea, bun maska and desserts while other customers at the café happily clicked pictures of the unexpected guests.
Sharing the photos, the studio wrote, “Quick tea stop before The Odyssey Mumbai Premiere. A Big night awaits, but chai comes first! #OdysseyMumbaiPremiere.”
As the pictures caught fans’ attention, many were left asking the same question: What is Olympia Coffee House and why is it such a popular spot in Mumbai?
Where Is Olympia Coffee House?
Located on Shahid Bhagat Singh Road in Colaba, Olympia Coffee House sits directly opposite the famous Leopold Café just a short distance from the Gateway of India.
The café has been serving customers for more than 108 years which makes it one of South Mumbai’s oldest surviving Irani-style eateries. Over the decades, it has become a favourite among locals, tourists, office-goers and college students looking for delicious food without spending a fortune.
Why Is Olympia Coffee House So Popular?
The café is known for its no-frills interiors or fast-paced service. During busy hours, it is common for customers to share large tables with strangers, something that has become part of the classic Irani café experience.
Its affordable prices and generous portions have helped Olympia remain one of Mumbai’s most loved eateries for generations.
Now, with Christopher Nolan, Tom Holland and Matt Damon stopping by before The Odyssey premiere, the iconic eatery has once again found itself in the spotlight.
What Should You Order At Olympia Coffee House?
The trio may have enjoyed chai and bun maska but Olympia’s menu goes far beyond its famous tea. Breakfast lovers often head straight for the café’s Mutton Kheema Pav which is one of its signature dishes. Many regulars also pair it with a Masala Omelette.
If you’re visiting later in the day, the café is equally well known for its Mughlai and non-vegetarian dishes. Popular choices include Chicken Biryani, Chicken Tandoori, Mutton Masala and several tawa specials.
Olympia also serves rotating daily specials like Mutton Paya, Daal Gosht, Mutton Khichda, Mutton Handi and Balti Chicken.
Those with a sweet tooth can finish their meal with the café’s popular Caramel Custard or its creamy Special Firni.
How Much Does It Cost?
One of the biggest reasons behind Olympia Coffee House’s popularity is its pocket-friendly pricing. A satisfying meal here usually costs between Rs 200 and Rs 400.
The café is open daily from 7 AM to 11:45 PM. Visitors should note that Olympia operates on a cash-only basis and does not accept table reservations. During peak hours, especially on weekends, diners may have to wait for a seat or share a table with other customers.
Why Olympia Coffee House Trending Now?
Olympia Coffee House has become one of the most searched eateries in Mumbai after Christopher Nolan, Tom Holland and Matt Damon chose to stop there before the city’s special premiere of The Odyssey.
