Kim Kardashian’s Hidden Hills home has once again found itself in the spotlight but this time for a reason the reality star would hardly want. A man was arrested after allegedly entering the property over the weekend and being seen removing items from the residence. Kardashian and her children were not at the house at the time as the property is currently undergoing renovations.
What Happened At Kim Kardashian’s Hidden Hills Home?
According to reports, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a burglary report shortly before 4 PM on Sunday, August 9. A security guard reportedly noticed a man inside the property and alerted police.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Trey Mendel. Authorities allege that he entered through a side door and was later spotted carrying items towards a vehicle. He also allegedly took a car belonging to a staff member and drove it around the neighbourhood before being arrested.
Mendel remains in custody on allegations of burglary and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. Formal charges have not yet been filed, with the case expected to be reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney.
The property was relatively empty at the time. Kardashian and her four children, North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm, have reportedly moved out temporarily while extensive renovation work is being carried out.
When Did Kim Kardashian Buy The Hidden Hills Mansion?
Kardashian purchased the Hidden Hills property in 2014 for a reported $20 million, while she was still married to Kanye West, now known as Ye. The house subsequently became the primary residence for the couple and their children.
Following their divorce, Kardashian retained the property. Legal documents later showed that she paid $23 million to acquire the house and its contents from West.
The property’s value has also been a subject of discussion over the years. In 2018, Kris Jenner claimed on social media that the residence was worth around $60 million, considerably more than what Kardashian and West had originally paid for it.
What Does Kim Kardashian’s Famous Mansion Look Like?
Unlike the flashy celebrity mansions one might expect, Kardashian’s Hidden Hills home is known for its extremely restrained aesthetic.
The property has often been described as resembling a “futuristic Belgian monastery” due to its muted interiors, minimalist architecture and strikingly unconventional layout, according to Realtor.com.
Inside, the home features curved hallways, vaulted ceilings and expansive open spaces. The estate also sits on extensive grounds.
Why Has The Property Gone Through So Many Renovations?
The Kardashian-West home has never been a completely finished project. Over the years, the property has undergone multiple changes and construction work as Kardashian and West reshaped the residence according to their preferences.
Images that emerged in November 2024 showed that significant work was once again being carried out at the estate. The current renovation is also why Kardashian and her children are reportedly not staying at the property at the moment.
Did Kim Kardashian Buy More Property Around The Mansion?
Kardashian’s interest in the Hidden Hills estate wasn’t limited to the original house. She also reportedly acquired neighbouring property to increase privacy and expand the family’s overall compound.
One of the additional properties reportedly cost around $7 million and included a four-bedroom home.
Why Is The Mansion So Important In Kim Kardashian And Kanye West’s Story?
The Hidden Hills property became much more than just a home during Kardashian and West’s marriage. It was where they raised their children.
Even after their relationship ended, Kardashian continued living at the residence with their four children. Their divorce was finalised in November 2022 but Kardashian had already made it clear that she intended to keep the Hidden Hills property.
She also purchased a Malibu mansion around the same period but reportedly continued to retain the Hidden Hills estate.
Has Kim Kardashian Been Targeted Before?
Unfortunately for Kardashian, the latest incident is not the first time she has been caught up in a major security scare.
In October 2016, she was robbed at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room by a group of masked men. Jewellery worth nearly $9 million was stolen during the incident.
Kardashian later testified about the experience during the trial in 2025 by telling the court that she feared she would die during the ordeal. Seven men and one woman were eventually found guilty in connection with the robbery.
The Kardashian West family home also faced a separate incident in 2017 when several vehicles in their Bel Air driveway were vandalised.
