So when reports surfaced claiming Krrish 4 had hit a roadblock because of a disagreement over its budget, fans were quick to panic. The rumours suggested that Hrithik Roshan, who is reportedly set to direct the fourth instalment himself, wanted a staggering Rs 500 crore budget for high-end visual effects and international-scale action sequences. Producer Aditya Chopra, according to industry chatter, was allegedly unwilling to go beyond Rs 350 crore.
But now, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has stepped in to set the record straight.

Speaking to Mid-Day, Rakesh Roshan firmly denied claims of any fallout between Hrithik Roshan and Yash Raj Films. “It’s all nonsense,” he said, dismissing reports that the actor-filmmaker demanded a Rs 500 crore budget for the film. He further explained that large-scale projects like Krrish naturally take time to develop, especially when expectations around technology and storytelling continue to evolve.
“Making a good film catering to a wide audience takes time. Even I have taken time for each of my Krrish offerings,” he told the publication. The veteran filmmaker also insisted that there is no tension between the three key players involved in the project, Hrithik Roshan, Aditya Chopra, and himself. “There are no issues; all is smooth. It’s teamwork between Adi, Hrithik, and me,” he added.
Why Is Krrish 4 Taking So Long To Go On Floors?
While fans have been waiting for an official announcement for years, Krrish 4 has faced multiple delays since its initial development phase. According to Rakesh Roshan, the hold-up has less to do with creative disagreements and more with scheduling and scale. Hrithik Roshan, who has been balancing acting commitments and newer production ventures, is currently occupied with projects under the banner he launched earlier this year. “Krrish is on another planet and we are all waiting for his dates,” Rakesh Roshan joked.
Industry insiders also point out that superhero films today come with significantly higher audience expectations. After the global success of franchises from Marvel and DC, Indian studios are under pressure to deliver visually polished spectacles that can compete internationally. That challenge becomes even bigger for a franchise like Krrish, which already carries nostalgia and legacy value.

Long before cinematic universes became the industry’s favourite phrase, the Krrish films attempted to create a distinctly Indian superhero mythos. The journey began with 2003’s Koi… Mil Gaya, where Hrithik Roshan played Rohit Mehra, a developmentally challenged young man whose life changes after an encounter with an alien named Jadoo. The film blended science fiction with emotional storytelling and became a cultural phenomenon.
Its sequel, Krrish, introduced Krishna Mehra, Rohit’s son, inheriting supernatural powers and eventually becoming a masked superhero. The franchise expanded further with Krrish 3, which leaned heavily into visual effects, mutants, and large-scale action. At a time when Bollywood rarely experimented with superhero storytelling, the series helped shape an entire generation’s idea of what Indian sci-fi cinema could look like.
Can Krrish 4 Revive Bollywood’s Big-Budget Spectacle Era?
The conversation around Krrish 4 also arrives at a crucial moment for Hindi cinema. Big-budget action films are under intense scrutiny after several high-profile releases struggled commercially despite star power and scale. Hrithik Roshan himself recently addressed the underperformance of War 2 during an event in Dubai, saying, “My film just bombed at the box office, so it feels very good to get all the love.”
That honesty has only added to curiosity around his next move. Apart from Krrish 4, the actor is also collaborating with Hombale Films, the studio behind Kantara, for a new large-scale project teased as “a tale of grit, grandeur and glory.” For now, though, all eyes remain on Krrish 4, a film that carries not just franchise expectations, but perhaps Bollywood’s biggest chance yet at redefining the Indian superhero genre for a new generation.
