Kylie Minogue, Australian Pop Star Reveals Second Cancer Diagnosis in Netflix Documentary; Opens Up About Personal Health Battle

Australian pop star Kylie Minogue has shared that she was diagnosed with cancer for a second time, back in 2021 in her Netflix documentary.

Pop star Kylie Minogue’s new self titled documentary has officially landed on Netflix. And in one of the scene, Kylie revealed that she was diagnosed with a second cancer in 2021 and the reason why she kept it private.

Kylie Minogue’s 2021 Secret Cancer Diagnosis 

Australian pop star Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with cancer for the second time, back in 2021. Minogue shared that it was diagnosed during a routine checkup and successfully treated due to early detection. She urged viewers to get regular checkups. 

“There will be someone out there who will benefit from a gentle reminder to do their check ups..Early detection was very helpful and I am so grateful to be able to share that I am well today”, she said in one of the clips. Minogue also hinted that her song ‘Story’ from her 2021 album Tension had some references to the diagnosis.

Why Kylie Minogue Stayed Silent 

While speaking about the second cancer diagnosis, Kylie said that she wasn’t ready to talk about it and hence kept it private. “I don’t feel obliged to tell the world, and actually I couldn’t at the time because I was just a shell of a person”, she admitted.

Kylie Minogue’s History with Cancer

Unfortunately, Kylie Minogue has a tumultuous history with cancer. The first time was durig her 2005 tour of ‘Showgirls’. At the time, Kylie cancelled that tour as well as her Glastonbury performance and was declared cancer free by 2006. 

Her candidness led to the ‘Kylie Effect’, a phenomenon which saw a massive surge of mammograms in Australian women. And the second diagnosis was in 2021 but kept private at the time.

Kylie Minogue’s documentary titled KYLIE premiered worldwide on 20th May, 2026. The documentary features three episodes and is available to stream on Netflix.
