Marvel Studios has already locked in three theatrical release dates for 2029 but there is one major problem for fans: nobody knows which movies will occupy them yet. The studio has currently reserved May 4, July 13 and November 9, 2029 for Marvel releases. Unlike several upcoming MCU projects, however, Marvel has not officially revealed the titles attached to those dates.
That has turned 2029 into something of a mystery year for the MCU. With Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, the new X-Men movie, Ghost Rider and Black Panther 3 filling out the years before it, the question is what Marvel could have planned for the three remaining slots.
What Are Marvel’s Three Mystery Movies Coming In 2029?
For now, there is no official answer. Marvel has reserved three dates — May 4, July 13 and November 9, 2029 but has not announced which projects will be released on them. That leaves plenty of room for speculation, particularly because several MCU projects have been rumoured or discussed without receiving official release dates.
Could Fantastic Four 2 Be One Of Marvel’s 2029 Movies?
A sequel to The Fantastic Four: First Steps is one possibility fans could look toward. If Marvel decides to continue the story of its Fantastic Four reboot, a 2029 release would give the studio enough time to develop another major installment following the team’s introduction to the MCU.
However, Marvel has not officially announced a sequel for 2029 so this remains speculation rather than a confirmed project.
Could Deadpool 4 Or Deadpool & Wolverine 2 Be Coming?
A follow-up to Deadpool & Wolverine could make sense as Marvel continues expanding its X-Men and mutant storylines after Avengers: Secret Wars. A potential Deadpool 4 or Deadpool & Wolverine 2 could also provide the kind of irreverent superhero release that has become closely associated with the franchise.
Is A New Thor Movie Coming In 2029?
Thor could also return. Chris Hemsworth’s future as the God of Thunder has been the subject of ongoing discussion, and another Thor movie has been rumoured. If Marvel wants to continue one of its longest-running MCU franchises, one of the 2029 slots could theoretically be used for another Thor adventure.
Could Doctor Strange Return After Secret Wars?
Doctor Strange is another major MCU character whose future could potentially extend into the post-Secret Wars era. A new Doctor Strange movie has been widely discussed by fans, particularly after the events surrounding the multiverse storyline. One of Marvel’s 2029 dates could therefore become a home for another supernatural or multiverse-focused adventure.
Could Shang-Chi 2 Fill One Of The Mystery Slots?
A sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is another possibility. The character remains part of Marvel’s larger MCU plans, and a second film could eventually bring Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi back to the big screen.
However, Marvel has yet to officially assign Shang-Chi 2 to any of its 2029 dates.
Could One Of The 2029 Movies Be A New Mutant Project?
Marvel is already preparing an untitled X-Men movie for May 5, 2028, making mutants an increasingly important part of the MCU’s future. That could eventually lead to more mutant-focused projects in 2029 and beyond.
A second X-Men movie would probably be too soon for the 2029 calendar, depending on the development timeline. A Deadpool sequel or another mutant-related project, however, could fit more naturally.
What About Spider-Man?
Spider-Man is another name that will enter the conversation. Tom Holland is expected to continue playing Peter Parker, but there is an important distinction when looking at Marvel’s 2029 calendar: Sony controls the theatrical release schedule for the Spider-Man films, rather than Marvel Studios’ Disney-only calendar.
