The Mirzapur franchise has finally arrived on the big screen and the response at the box office suggests that the wait was worth it. Mirzapur: The Movie, starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu and Ravi Kishan, opened strongly on Friday, September 4.
According to Sacnilk data cited by The Indian Express, the film had already crossed the Rs 20 crore mark in gross collections by 7 pm on Day 1. The film recorded an estimated Rs 20.39 crore gross and Rs 17.28 crore net across 8,390 shows. The Hindi version contributed around Rs 17.18 crore, while the Telugu version added Rs 10 lakh.
How Is Mirzapur The Movie Performing At The Box Office?
The opening is particularly significant because Mirzapur: The Movie is an extension of one of India’s most popular OTT crime franchises. The film, directed by Gurmmeet Singh, brings back several fan-favourite characters, including Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Pandit and Munna Bhaiya.
The positive response to the performances, particularly Pankaj Tripathi and the returning cast, appears to have helped the film make a strong transition from streaming to theatres. The early numbers also put the film on track for a strong opening weekend if its momentum continues through Saturday and Sunday.
Why Is Toxic Feeling The Pressure?
The timing of Mirzapur: The Movie’s release has created an interesting box-office clash with Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. Toxic opened with huge numbers but has experienced a steep decline after its first few days. Sacnilk reported that the film collected Rs 4.25 crore net on Day 9, taking its India net total to Rs 239.30 crore at that point.
More importantly, Hanuman Ansh has already emerged as an unlikely box-office force. The devotional film, which started with just Rs 10 lakh on its opening day, reportedly earned around Rs 11 crore on Day 28, surpassing Toxic’s collection for the same day.
Mirzapur Vs Toxic Vs Hanuman Ansh: Who Has The Edge?
The box-office picture is becoming increasingly interesting. Toxic still has a substantial overall lead because of its blockbuster opening, but its declining daily collections have opened the door for newer releases.
Hanuman Ansh, meanwhile, has shown extraordinary staying power, with its business driven by strong word of mouth. Mirzapur has taken a very different route, relying on an established fan base built over three seasons of the hit series.
The big question now is whether Mirzapur: The Movie can maintain its Day 1 momentum and turn its strong opening into a successful theatrical run.
