Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has been hospitalised in Kolkata after undergoing a surgery on his right hand. The procedure was reportedly linked to an old injury for which a metal plate had been inserted previously. According to the latest health update, the actor is recovering well and is expected to be discharged soon.
Mithun Chakraborty Undergoes Surgery For Old Injury
According to reports, the surgery was not an emergency procedure. However, it was carried out to address complications related to a previous accident that he had suffered. Mithun underwent an operation on his right hand at a private hospital in Kolkata, where he has been under medical observation for the past few days. The procedure has been described as minor, and doctors are said to be satisfied with his recovery.
Bengal Leaders Visit Mithun Chakraborty In Hospital
Following news of his hospitalisation, senior political leaders visited the veteran actor. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met Mithun at the hospital. Later, he shared that the actor’s condition was stable. He also posted photographs from the visit, and reassured fans that Mithun was recovering well after the successful surgery.
“Renowned film actor, one of the members of BJP central association respected Mr. Mithun Chakraborty admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata due to physical illness. Went to the hospital today to see her. Talked to him, checked about his physical condition. Praying for the merciful God for his speedy recovery,” Adhikari wrote on Instagram.
Fans Concerned After Previous Health Scare
The latest hospitalisation comes more than two years after Mithun Chakraborty suffered an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (stroke) in February 2024. He had then been admitted to a city hospital after experiencing weakness in his right limbs. Following treatment and rehabilitation, the celebrated actor recovered and resumed work.
Mithun Chakraborty’s Celebrated Career
Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut with Mrigayaa (1976), and earned the National Film Award for Best Actor. He went on to become a household name with blockbusters like Disco Dancer, Agneepath, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Ghar Ek Mandir and Jallad.
In recent years, he has continued to balance acting commitments with his political career and was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2024.
