The phenomenal success of Dhurandhar and its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has now received recognition from one of India’s biggest business leaders. Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani recently praised the blockbuster franchise while reflecting on the growing dominance of Jio Studios in the Indian entertainment business.
According to reports published by the Indian Express, Ambani addressed shareholders in a detailed communication discussing Jio Studios’ recent theatrical achievements and the unprecedented success of the Dhurandhar franchise led by Ranveer Singh.
Mukesh Ambani Says Dhurandhar Created New Industry Benchmarks
In the letter, Ambani described the spy-action franchise as a “record-smashing” cinematic success that helped establish new standards not just in box office numbers but also in global audience engagement and film monetisation strategies. He reportedly wrote that Jio Studios had achieved the rare distinction of delivering the highest-grossing Indian film for three consecutive years. The studio backed Stree 2 in 2024, followed by Dhurandhar in 2025 and Dhurandhar: The Revenge in 2026.
Ambani further stated that the two Dhurandhar films transformed theatrical business models and demonstrated Jio Studios’ growing leadership position in Indian cinema. According to him, the first instalment alone became the highest-grossing Indian film upon release. It continued its historic run for nearly 15 weeks before the sequel arrived in cinemas amid extraordinary anticipation.
How Dhurandhar Became A Box Office Juggernaut
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the Dhurandhar films emerged as one of the biggest cinematic events in recent Bollywood history. The franchise blended espionage, political intrigue, emotional drama and large-scale action set pieces, a combination that struck a chord with audiences across India and overseas markets. While the first film created massive momentum, the sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge elevated the franchise into an outright box office phenomenon.
According to trade estimates from Sacnilk, the sequel reportedly earned around Rs 1,812 crore globally, placing it among the highest-grossing Indian films ever made. Combined, the two films are said to have crossed the Rs 3,000 crore mark worldwide, an extraordinary feat for a Hindi-language franchise. Apart from Ranveer Singh, the films also featured performances from R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in pivotal roles.
Jio Studios’ Rapid Rise In Bollywood
Over the last few years, Jio Studios has aggressively expanded its footprint in theatrical cinema and streaming content. The studio’s recent successes reflect a larger shift in Bollywood’s commercial ecosystem, where major corporate-backed banners are increasingly driving large-scale franchise filmmaking. Industry observers have noted that Dhurandhar’s success also signals a growing appetite for high-budget Hindi action spectacles capable of competing with global franchise cinema.
The films’ strong overseas performance further highlighted Bollywood’s expanding international audience, especially in North America, the Middle East and parts of Europe.
Ranveer Singh Also In Headlines Over Don 3 Dispute
While Dhurandhar continues to dominate industry conversations, Ranveer Singh has simultaneously found himself in the middle of controversy surrounding Don 3. The actor reportedly exited the project last year, triggering speculation about creative disagreements and financial fallout.
Reports later claimed that filmmaker Farhan Akhtar sought compensation linked to pre-production losses associated with the film. The situation escalated further after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees reportedly issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer over the exit. However, the directive was later revoked following developments between the parties involved.
Even amid the controversy, the overwhelming success of the Dhurandhar franchise has firmly reinforced Ranveer Singh’s position as one of Bollywood’s biggest commercial stars, and, according to Mukesh Ambani himself, a central figure behind one of Indian cinema’s most successful theatrical runs in recent years.
