North West, the 12-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, responded to online reactions about her black grills during an Instagram Live session. Many people noticed her teeth and asked questions about the bold look.
During the Jan. 26 livestream, which later appeared on X, North read a comment and said, "Why is my teeth black? Are we okay?" She then made it clear that the grills were not permanent. "I could take them out," she added while showing her teeth.
North first showed her black grills in a TikTok video in December. In the same post, she wore face jewelry, though it was not confirmed if the piercings were real. She has also been in the spotlight for her finger piercings. People noticed them when she stepped out in Rome with Kim Kardashian in September and again this month when she showed more body changes.
Even with criticism on social media, North has continued to express herself through fashion and accessories.
Last month, North shared a TikTok video to respond to people criticizing her jewelry. She wrote, "This is for everyone that's mad over a finger piercing." This showed that she is confident about her personal style.
North also supported her look in a song she created with her father, Kanye West. In "Piercing on My Hand (Ye Version)," shared on Instagram Stories, she raps, "Piercing on my hand, the other holding bands," and "No friends, just filter, you wouldn’t understand."
Kim Kardashian has spoken about how she parents North while dealing with public attention. On the Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, she said she allows North to explore fashion, clothing, fake tattoos, piercings, and her famous blue wig.
Kim said, "I'm just not a judgmental person like that, so I try not to pay attention to it." She also explained, "But, I think that no one knows unless they're in my shoes what I'm dealing with and how we have to manage certain things from the outside world or even close in our life that we have to go through together."
Kim said many people think she lets North do anything, but that is not true. She explained, "I think like the one misconception that people might have is like, 'Oh, she's trying to be her bestie and lets her get away with a lot.' Like, no, Northy actually has a lot of rules. I do let her express herself." She added, "I love her for that, and she would do it, you know, regardless."
