Peddi Box Office Collections Day 9: Director Buchi Babu Sana’s sports action-drama Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor is experiencing a visible working week slowdown at the box office. On its ninth day in theaters, the film witnessed an 18.3% decline from its previous day, pulling in Rs 5.15 crore net in India.

The drop brings its worldwide gross total to Rs 286.38 crore, leaving the high-budget entertainer with a significant mountain left to climb to hit its ultimate break-even targets.

Domestic Run Nears a Major Milestone

Despite the deceleration, the film is steadily marching toward a massive domestic benchmark. With the Day 9 numbers locked in, Peddi’s total India net collection sits at Rs 198.70 crore, placing it on the absolute verge of entering the prestigious Rs 200 crore domestic club.

The gross collection of the film is at Rs 235.98 crore, indicating that the core market for the film is somewhat limited to its Telugu states which has been its front runner since the beginning.

Halved Show Counts Impact Friday Performance

One of the reasons for the sudden dip in the momentum could also be attributed to the fact that the screens have been reduced considerably. On Day 8, Peddi had a whooping 7,412 shows across the country which shrank down to 3,816 shows on day 9.

Despite having fewer screens, the film managed good numbers through strong nighttime footfalls, with overall Telugu occupancy rising to 29% during night shows.

What is the Janhvi Kapoor Controversy?

Janhvi Kapoor steps into the narrative as Achiyamma, the daughter of a local politician and Peddi’s primary love interest. While her presence adds significant romantic angle in the film but, her character track has recently become the center of intense box office conversation and somewhat of a controversy.

Viewers and critics have heavily criticized the romantic sub-plot, pointing to scenes where Peddi repeatedly disregards Achiyamma’s personal boundaries, presenting problematic behaviour under the disguise of raw andrural romance. The backlash grew loud enough that director Buchi Babu Sana openly admitted certain frames turned out “misleading” and chose to delete the controversial sequences entirely.

Furthermore, with the makers releasing a heavily re-edited, tighter cut in theaters to address the runtime and pacing issues, Kapoor’s screen time might have been significantly reduced. Because her character already faded out drastically during the second half to make room for Peddi’s wrestling and track transitions, these new edits have left her angle feeling even more abbreviated, impacting the romantic weight of the climax.

The Global Target and Top 5 Rankings

Internationally, Peddi added Rs 1 crore gross on Friday, pushing its overseas total to Rs 50.40 crore. While the production house reports separate numbers crossing the Rs 350 crore gross mark based on early theatrical estimates, standard industry trackers place the current global gross at Rs 286.38 crore.

This performance officially pushes Peddi past Suriya’s Karuppu to become the fourth highest-grossing Indian film net of 2026 so far. However, with trade sources pinning the film’s global break-even target close to Rs 500 crore, the upcoming second Saturday and Sunday performance will determine if this sports drama can secure a safe financial number.
