Movie themed popcorn buckets have become a big part of the theatre experience over the last few years. Some are cute, some are collectible and a few end up becoming viral for all the wrong reasons. Now, Spider Man: Brand New Day has joined that list.
Ahead of the film’s release, theatre chain Cinemark unveiled its exclusive Spider Man: Brand New Day merchandise that included a brand new popcorn bucket. While it was meant to build excitement for Tom Holland’s return as the beloved superhero, fans had a very different reaction.
Spider Man: Brand New Day – So, How Does The Bucket Look Like?
Instead of a regular popcorn tub, Cinemark went with a quirky design. The collectible features Spider Man’s red and blue arm holding up a white cone shaped bowl in web shaped for popcorn. A drinking straw runs through the centre which will allow moviegoers to enjoy both popcorn and their drink from the same container.
The theatre chain also revealed a complete range of Spider Man themed collectibles such as blanket, bottle, popcorn tub with lid, popcorn tin and cup combo.
But it was the popcorn bucket that stole all the attention and not in the way Cinemark had hoped.
Fans Roasting The Design
The internet wasted no time reacting to the unusual bucket with many users questioning the design.
One user simply wrote, “Wait! Question! Is that a popcorn bucket.”
Another bluntly said, “Horrible to me.”
“Ummm guys…who designed the spiderweb cup?” someone else wondered.
A person commented, “The industry has been intentionally making these popcorn buckets look dirty for publicity ever since the Dune 2 bucket.”
“We need to chill on the popcorn buckets I think,” an individual stated while another jokingly said, “No one actually thought about the cup I see.”
Tom Holland Returns As Spider Man
The upcoming film marks Tom Holland’s fourth standalone outing as Spider Man. After making his Marvel debut in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, Holland went on to lead Spider Man: Homecoming, Spider Man: Far From Home and the blockbuster Spider Man: No Way Home.
Brand New Day follows Peter Parker as he fully embraces his role as New York City’s protector. But balancing life as Spider Man comes at a cost as the constant pressure begins to trigger a dangerous physical transformation that threatens his very existence.
Zendaya returns as MJ, while Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón Zayas and Marvin Jones III also join the cast.
One mystery that continues to fuel fan theories is Sadie Sink’s role. Marvel has kept her character tightly under wraps which has led many fans to speculate that she could be playing Jean Grey. Whether those theories are true will only be revealed when Spider Man: Brand New Day swings into theatres on July 31.
