Priyanka Chopra is all set to make her Telugu debut with SS Rajamouli’s much-awaited film Varanasi. As the actress prepares to return to Indian cinema after eight years, she has now opened up about her experience working with the filmmaker and teased what fans can expect from her role.
Speaking on the Hey Jonas podcast with Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas and Nick Jonas, Priyanka praised Rajamouli’s vision and revealed that the epic adventure film has taken over a year of her time.
Priyanka Chopra Gives Updates On Her Varanasi Role
During the conversation, Nick Jonas encouraged Priyanka to talk about Varanasi. Sharing details about the project, the actress said, “I have working on it for about 14 months now. But SS Rajamouli is known to take that kind of time to make movies.”
Calling the film an epic adventure, she added, “He called me for this movie and its this epic adventure around the world and in time. It has taken a minute but I am so excited about it.”
While Priyanka kept details about her character under wraps, she did reveal one exciting aspect of her performance. “I do so many amazing slow-motion jumps in it and that’s all I can say about it,” she said.
Priyanka Chopra Praises SS Rajamouli’s Vision
Priyanka shared that working with Rajamouli has been a unique experience, praising his ability to create larger-than-life worlds. Earlier, speaking with Variety, the actress had described Varanasi as a project unlike anything she has done before.
“This is unlike anything I’ve ever done. We travel from like Antarctica to … And just the worlds that he creates are so larger than life, and nobody has the vision that he does. So even I’m excited to see more,” she said.
Priyanka Chopra’s Return To Indian Cinema
Directed by SS Rajamouli and written by Vijayendra Prasad, Varanasi marks Rajamouli’s first film after the worldwide success of RRR. The film stars Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj and Priyanka Chopra and combines mythology, Indian folklore and science-fiction elements, including time travel, in a globe-spanning adventure.
The movie also marks Priyanka’s return to Indian films after an eight-year gap. The actress previously revealed that she had one special request before signing the project. “I was like, ‘Listen, I’m coming back to Indian movies. I have to do a dance song. Like you have to make me dance.’”
She added, “I know I’m gonna be doing it, but we haven’t shot it yet. OK, that’s one of the last things, which I’m really looking forward to. But we already did one where the choreography was crazy. It’s so intricate.”
Varanasi is scheduled to release in theatres in April next year and is expected to be one of the biggest Indian films coming next year.
