Mahesh Babu’s birthday got a little more special when Priyanka Chopra Jonas dropped a behind the scenes glimpse from their Varanasi journey. The actress took to social media on Sunday to wish her costar by sharing a picture of the two from what appears to be the film’s Africa schedule. And yes, it looks like the Varanasi team has been having quite the adventure while filming the ambitious project.
Sitting beside the birthday boy in the picture, Priyanka kept her message short and sweet while giving fans another peek at the world being created by S.S. Rajamouli.
Priyanka Chopra’s Birthday Wish For Mahesh Babu
Alongside the behind-the-scenes picture, Priyanka wrote, “Happy Birthday Bob. Here’s to going on the ultimate adventure with #Varanasi! @urstrulyMahesh.”
Priyanka Chopra And Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi Adventure
The two actors are among the central faces of Varanasi with Mahesh playing Rudhra and Priyanka taking on the role of Mandakini. Their characters are part of a story that is expected to travel across different time periods and locations which makes the film much bigger in scope than a straightforward action adventure.
The Africa schedule has been particularly important for the film. The production travelled to locations including Kilimanjaro and the Maasai Mara.
Mahesh Babu’s Rudhra Look Also Revealed
Priyanka’s birthday post comes around the same time as the makers gave audiences a closer look at Mahesh as Rudhra. New character stills released for the actor’s birthday show him sporting a rugged look with a full against the African landscape.
One still places him on a bamboo raft surrounded by greenery while another shows him against the African savannah with animals visible in the distance.
Rajamouli has described Rudhra as someone who carries a destiny much larger than himself and has both a fierce and vulnerable side.
“Rudhra was born to fulfil a purpose much larger than himself. He carries a destiny he did not ask for. He is witty, he is vulnerable, and he is fierce. That is what Mahesh brought to him. Anyone can play fierce. Very few can play fierce and fragile in the same breath,” he said.

The synopsis of Varanasi reads, “In the year 2027, the world faces an existential crisis as a massive asteroid named Shambhavi is on a direct collision course with the holy city of Varanasi. A rugged archaeologist and explorer, Rudhra, is recruited for a high-stakes, globetrotting mission to recover an ancient cosmic artefact, joined by Mandakini, a fierce historian and skilled marksman.”
Varanasi is scheduled to release worldwide on April 7, 2027.
