A Kannada thriller has made an unusual move even before its release. ‘Rakkasapuradhol’ secured its television and digital streaming partners ahead of its theatrical debut, something most films only manage after box office success. The film, directed by debutant Ravi Saranga and starring Raj B Shetty as a police officer, hit cinemas on February 6. For viewers who miss it in theaters, its OTT destination is already set.
According to OTTplay, Zee Network has acquired both the satellite and streaming rights for the film. This means the movie will eventually be available for streaming on ZEE5 after its theatrical run. It will also be accessible to viewers via OTTplay Premium.
Typically, Kannada films lock satellite and streaming deals only after seeing their box office performance, making this pre-release arrangement quite rare.
Usually, the digital platforms wait to evaluate commercial success before committing to rights. While an official premiere date for streaming is not confirmed yet, industry trends suggest it will likely arrive about a month after its theatrical release, which points to the first or second week of March as a probable window.
‘Rakkasapuradhol’ is the first production venture of well-known stunt master Ravi Verma, with music composed by Arjun Janya, whose directorial debut ‘45’ also features Raj B Shetty and streams on the same platform.
In the film, Raj B Shetty portrays SI Shiva, a police officer assigned to a quiet village suddenly terrorized by a series of murders. Villagers believe a demon named Kolli Devva is behind the killings, but Shiva approaches the case with logic and evidence rather than superstition. The suspense heightens as each discovery challenges the townspeople’s beliefs.
The movie features Archana Kottige, Swathishta Krishnan, B Suresh, Jahangir, Siddanna, Gaurav Shetty, and Anirudh Bhat in supporting roles. Fans can follow the film’s journey from theaters to streaming platforms, with the theatrical experience coming first and digital viewing to follow soon after.
