Survivor fans have a fascinating treat tonight, Friday, Feb. 13, as CBS starts its Road to Survivor 50 schedule. After watching the legendary Ozzy Lusth and Coach battle from Survivor: South Pacific, CBS is moving on to one of the most distinctive seasons ever: Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers.
Tonight’s episode is a repeat broadcast of “The Survivor Devil,” the 12th episode of the season. The focus will be on Chrissy Hofbeck, who is considered to be one of the most underrated players in Survivor history. Chrissy gave a performance that could have easily won several seasons, but she ended up as the runner-up to Ben Driebergen, losing out 5-2-1.
This episode originally aired on Dec. 13, 2017, almost a decade ago, and this season is still remembered for its distinctive theme and gameplay.
Chrissy Hofbeck and the Final Six
“The Survivor Devil” opens with the final six players left in the game: Chrissy Hofbeck, Ben Driebergen, Ryan Ulrich, Devan Pinto, Ashley Nolan, and Mike Zahalsky.
Ben has just played a hidden immunity idol at the previous Tribal Council, after being the target of every other player left in the game. Ben is well aware that he is at the bottom of the list and that his only hope of survival is to win challenges or find another immunity idol.
Chrissy is a strong competitor in challenges, winning both reward and immunity challenges, but she also makes key errors that work against her. By not taking Ben on the reward trip or having a loyal ally watch him at camp, Ben is able to locate and play another immunity idol, thus keeping himself in the game when he is supposed to be voted out.
Chrissy’s Impressive Challenge Wins
Chrissy, however, continues to show her dominance by winning her third individual immunity challenge of the season, tying the record for the most individual immunity wins by a woman in Survivor history. However, despite Chrissy’s wins, Ben’s strategic idol plays and final play of the game outshine her performance.
As Chrissy makes her way to the final immunity challenges, Ben continues his winning streak of idol plays and finally wins the fire-making challenge, taking home the win of the season in a dramatic finale. This finale is one of the most memorable Survivor finales in history, as it portrays how the winner can take control of the game at the very end.
Road to Survivor 50 Continues
Viewers can expect tonight’s episode, and CBS has announced that there will be five big episodes next week as part of the Road to Survivor 50. All of this is leading up to the Survivor 50 premiere on Wednesday, Feb. 25, which is just around the corner.
With the season finale drama playing out once again, it is an opportunity to experience Chrissy’s amazing gameplay and Ben’s brilliant strategy that stole the season.
