The movie is best when it’s about Anvesh and Mythili’s relationship. Anvesh (Sumanth Prabhas) is a young engineering graduate who is attempting to launch his start-up in Hyderabad, while Mythili (Ananthika Sanilkumar) is a girl from Chennai who falls for him. Little has been more believable than the chemistry they share and their long-distance romance, because they seem natural and not so dramatic. The movie doesn’t require any epic romantic scenes to demonstrate they like each other. Their conversations, little interactions and comfortable equation do most of the work. These are also the scenes that Romanchakam feels are the most relatable.

Instead, her arrival sparks a run of messy incidents. Then Anvesh ends up tied to one problem after another, mostly with his friends around.

Sumanth Prabhas stands out as one of Romanchakam’s best parts. He helps Anvesh feel real, not forced. When he jokes with his friends, gets stuck in a tense moment, or tries to handle his feelings, it lands in a natural way. His acting looks easy on the surface, but it still carries real sincerity, mainly in the later emotional parts. Ananthika Sanilkumar also fits well with him. Their scenes that center on the two of them feel smooth and believable. Still, the script does not push either of them far enough. The characters do not get the extra layers they need. Romanchakam could have been a fresh, easy modern romance.
