Stand‑up comedian Samay Raina has returned to the spotlight with his new comedy special, Still Alive, released on April 7, 2026, on YouTube. In this deeply personal show, Raina revisits the turbulence he faced after India’s Got Latent controversy last year, not just as a public spectacle but as a mental and emotional struggle he had to survive.

This fresh chapter arrives more than a year after his popular digital variety show India’s Got Latent (IGL) was taken offline amid a fierce backlash in early 2025 over a controversial remark made by guest Ranveer Allahbadia. The controversy sparked widespread outrage, multi‑state FIRs and intense media scrutiny, leaving Raina to balance legal pressure, career risks and personal anxiety.

Before the storm hit, Samay says his life was on an extraordinary upward curve. His online videos were drawing 5–6 crore views regularly, celebrities sought him out, and he was riding a wave of viral fame. At one point, he announced what would have been his biggest US comedy tour, selling out 50,000 tickets almost instantly.

But everything changed after a taped episode featuring Ranveer Allahbadia, later condemned for an inappropriate joke, triggered a backlash that engulfed Samay’s show and reputation.

Samay describes the emotional toll in stark terms. He recalls shivering backstage, his heart racing and breathing shallow before a show, classic signs of an anxiety attack, yet he chose to perform, “I sometimes wonder if I should’ve edited that video… I was king, man.”

When notifications exploded with abuse and death threats, even including images of his parents, he felt completely overwhelmed. To escape his spiralling thoughts, he even stepped into a casino, “I swear to God I felt like it was a dream, it wasn’t real… It’s called psychosis.”

Adding to his distress, Raina’s team calculated that had he been forced to pull out of the US tour at that moment, he might have lost about Rs 8 crore of his savings, money he had planned for building a house and other life goals.

The uproar also had official implications. FIRs were filed against Samay, Ranveer and other creators across states, including Maharashtra, Assam and Rajasthan, with politicians also publicly weighing in on the case. Raina ultimately deleted all episodes of India’s Got Latent in an effort to cooperate and ease the controversy.

Despite the legal stress, he did not let it derail his stand‑up career entirely. Raina kept touring globally, performing sold‑out arenas, including iconic venues like Madison Square Garden, and used those experiences as fuel for Still Alive.

The new special isn’t just a collection of jokes; it’s Raina’s response to one of the darkest periods of his life. In Still Alive, he openly laughs about his trials, confronts critics, and even hints at future possibilities — including responses to detractors and the potential return of India’s Got Latent.

Fans on social platforms are responding with mixed emotions. Many feel moved by his honesty and resilience, while others debate the balance between light‑hearted comedy and deeper emotional reflection.

Raina’s journey spotlights not just one comedian’s comeback but a wider conversation about creative expression, public reaction and mental health under scrutiny. His bold choice to discuss psychosis, anxiety attacks and financial peril in an entertainment format may signal a shift in how artists tackle personal crises onstage.
