South African glamour industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor and gospel musician Seputla Sebogodi. He is best known for portraying the iconic villain Kenneth Mashaba in the hit soap opera Generations. According to reports, Sebogodi died on July 16, Thursday. The cause of death has not yet been officially disclosed.

Born on October 31, 1962, in Lady Selborne, Pretoria, Seputla Sebogodi began his acting journey in the 1980s. He often described his entry into acting as accidental. According to the actor, he stepped in for an absent performer during a stage production and that opportunity changed his life forever.
He rose to prominence with roles in local productions and eventually became a household name as the ruthless Kenneth Mashaba in Generations.
Over the years, he appeared in multiple television shows and films like Bophelo Ke Semphekgo, Suburban Bliss, Rhythm City, Scandal!, The Republic, Critical Assignment and The Woman King (2022). Sebogodi also enjoyed success as a gospel musician, and released multiple albums during his career.

Sebogodi grew up in a modest household in Pretoria. His father served as a church pastor. During his younger days, he reportedly took on manual jobs to help support himself while also pursued his education.
His breakthrough came after discovering his passion for performance during a family event. From theatre productions, he gradually moved to television and film, and become one of South Africa’s most celebrated actors. His dedication to the craft earned him many South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) honours.
