Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise could be heading towards another chapter and Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton is reportedly expected to return behind the camera. If the deal comes together, Cretton would get another chance to continue the story after the huge theatrical success of Holland’s latest outing.
Will Destin Daniel Cretton Direct Spider-Man 5?
Cretton directed Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has become one of the biggest theatrical successes of 2026. Deadline reported that he is set to return for the fifth Tom Holland-led Spider-Man movie, although the biggest question surrounding his involvement may not be whether he wants to return, but whether his schedule will allow it.
The director already has several projects competing for his time. His upcoming work includes a Hawaii Five-O movie and a live-action adaptation of Naruto. He has also previously spoken positively about the possibility of returning to the Marvel world for Shang-Chi 2. However, the future of that project remains uncertain.
Cretton is no longer attached to a second season of Wonder Man after Disney cancelled the series, which could potentially free up some room in his schedule.
Why Spider-Man 5 Could Take Time
The timing of the next Spider-Man movie is another major question. Marvel’s release calendar is already packed for the next few years, with major projects occupying much of the available space.
That means Spider-Man 5 may not arrive immediately. The earliest potential openings in Marvel’s current schedule point towards 2029, although release plans can change considerably as studios adjust their slates.
The wait would not necessarily be unusual for the franchise. Spider-Man: Brand New Day was produced on a relatively quick turnaround compared with many Marvel projects, but another film would require Holland, Cretton and the wider creative team to align their schedules.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Future
For Holland, the possibility of another movie comes after Brand New Day gave his version of Peter Parker another major chapter. The film follows Peter after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the character living in a world where nobody remembers his identity and focusing completely on his life as Spider-Man.
Holland has also indicated that he remains interested in continuing the character. At the same time, he has spoken about the eventual future of the franchise and the possibility of introducing another Spider-Man.
What Happened In Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marked Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man film. Directed by Cretton, the movie also stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.
The film has been a major box-office success. As of the latest figures, Brand New Day has earned $2.4 billion worldwide.
