Tom Holland’s latest film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where he reprises his role as the friendly neighbourhood superhero, has entered its second week. Good news for the film: it continues to perform strongly at the Indian box office. After a massive opening and a strong second weekend, the superhero film witnessed the expected slowdown on its second Monday. However, the dip has done little to affect its impressive overall run.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Spider-Man: Brand New Day collected Rs 7.60 crore net in India on Day 12, which fell on its second Monday. The film recorded an overall occupancy of 38.6% across 12,765 shows. The second Monday collection was 78.1% lower than the Rs 34.70 crore net earned on its second Sunday.
With the latest update, the film’s India net collection has climbed to Rs 423.05 crore, while its India gross collection has reached Rs 505.93 crore.
How Much Did Spider-Man: Brand New Day Earn In Its Second Week?
The Tom Holland-starrer had a powerful start at the Indian box office. Released on July 30, the film opened with Rs 60.60 crore on Day 1 at 72.3% occupancy. It collected Rs 49.35 crore on Day 2, followed by Rs 70.25 crore on Day 3. The first Sunday saw an even bigger jump, with the film earning ₹77.75 crore at 78.7% occupancy, its biggest single-day collection so far.
Across its first eight days, Spider-Man: Brand New Day accumulated Rs 334.75 crore net in India.
The film then maintained its momentum during its second weekend. Day 9 contributed Rs 15 crore, while Day 10 saw the collection rise to ₹31 crore. On its second Sunday, the film earned another Rs 34.70 crore. Together, the three days brought in nearly ₹81 crore, proving that audience interest has remained strong well into the second week.
How Did Spider-Man: Brand New Day Beat Avatar 2?
The film has now achieved a major milestone in India. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has surpassed James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water to become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India. More significantly, the Tom Holland-led superhero film has become the first Hollywood movie to cross the Rs 500 crore gross mark in India, with its gross collection now standing at Rs 505.93 crore.
The film is the fourth standalone Spider-Man movie starring Holland and is set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following Doctor Strange’s spell, Peter Parker has been forgotten by everyone who knew him, including Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, played by Zendaya, and his best friend Ned Leeds, played by Jacob Batalon.
Peter continues protecting New York as Spider-Man while living a largely solitary life. However, a series of strange crimes and an unexplained transformation soon force him to confront a new threat.
As Peter struggles with the consequences of his past choices, he receives help from some unexpected allies, including Frank Castle/The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, and Bruce Banner, played by Mark Ruffalo.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day also stars Sadie Sink alongside Holland, Zendaya, Batalon, Bernthal and Ruffalo.
