The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is finally here, and there is a lot more packed into those few minutes than what you might have just seen. From classic Spider-Man hints to major MCU connections and a few clues about Peter Parker’s future, the latest footage gives fans plenty to talk about before the film reaches theatres on July 31.
If you were busy watching Tom Holland take on new enemies and unexpected allies, here are five Easter eggs and hidden details you may have missed.
A Nod To Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man
The first shot in the trailer shows a pizza restaurant called Gen’s Pizza. While initially it may seem like an ordinary New York location but longtime Spider-Man fans would quickly notice red lettering, white background and a circular logo look which is exactly similar to Joe’s Pizza, the iconic restaurant featured in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 starring Tobey Maguire.
Scorpion Finally Returns
Another major reveal that deserves all our attention is the return of Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion. The villain was last seen in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2017. Now he’s finally back, all set for revenge. His line, “Did you miss me, Spidey?”, is proof that he has been waiting for years to settle the score with Peter Parker.
Peter’s Powers Are Changing
One of the trailer’s biggest easter eggs involves Peter himself. At one point, Peter is shocked when webs suddenly shoot directly from his wrists. Unlike the MCU’s previous Spider-Man movies, where Peter relied on mechanical web-shooters, this appears to be a biological ability.
The scene instantly brings back memories of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, who naturally produced webbing.
Bruce Banner And Peter Parker’s Interaction
The trailer marks the first on-screen interaction between Peter Parker and Bruce Banner. Fans spotted Peter wearing an Empire State University hoodie while seeking advice from Banner, another subtle MCU callback. Even more interesting is Banner’s Hulk Inhibitor Device, which prevents him from transforming. It suggests Bruce may be trying to avoid becoming the Hulk at all costs. Yes, that could contribute a lot to the conflict.
Aunt May’s Message Hints at the Movie’s Theme
The most emotional moment from the trailer involves Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May as she narrates part of the trailer. She says, “This whole thing can get really scary, but the people who love you love you because you’re you. Never forget that, no matter how powerful you become.”
With Peter forgotten by his own friends after No Way Home, trying to reconnect with MJ and Ned, May’s words may be the biggest clue about the emotional journey of Spider-Man in the film.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day reunites Tom Holland with Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. New cast members in the film include Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colon-Zayas and Marvin Jones II.
