Taylor Swift may have hundreds of awards on her shelf already but she just added another major one to the collection. The pop superstar made history on Thursday night when she became the youngest woman ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and this one came with a 21-minute speech.
The ceremony took place at New York City’s Marriott Marquis Hotel where the Love Story singer talked about her songwriting journey, her family’s sacrifices and the people who helped shape her career.
Before Swift took the stage just after midnight, rising singer Sombr paid tribute to her with performances of Cardigan and Dear John.
When it was finally her turn to speak, the Shake It Off crooner made sure to thank the people who believed in her long before the sold-out stadium tours and chart-topping albums.
“It was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life,” Swift said, before recalling how her parents moved the entire family from Pennsylvania to Nashville so she could pursue music.
“And even though words are supposed to kind of be my thing, I will never be able to express my gratitude to you guys for doing that for me. You’re the reason I’m here tonight,” she told her family.
One of the night’s biggest surprises was seeing filmmaker Steven Spielberg introduce Swift. The singer revealed that when the Hall of Fame asked who she admired most as a storyteller, Spielberg was the first name that came to mind.
Swift said she was shocked when he immediately agreed to do it, especially because he had a major film (Disclosure Day) releasing at midnight the same night.
She further joked about how difficult his schedule must be. That’s when Spielberg’s wife, Kate Capshaw, offered a piece of advice that stayed with her.
“Good and true things are easy,” Capshaw told her.
That quote ended up becoming one of the most emotional moments of Swift’s speech. Looking back on more than two decades in the music industry, Swift admitted she has experienced everything from criticism and industry battles to fame and a complete loss of privacy.
But through all the chaos, one thing always felt simple. “Songwriting was the easiest thing I ever did,” she said.
Before the emotions took the center stage, Tay Tay had a fun red-carpet moment with Sombr. Speaking about the young singer, Swift laughed, “I’m like an over excited mom with her teenage son… I’m into it.”

Inside the event, Swift was seated with fiancé Travis Kelce, their mothers Andrea Swift and Donna Kelce and Spielberg.
The 36-year-old singer joins the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s 2026 class alongside Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of Kiss, Terry Britten and Graham Lyle and Walter Afanasieff.
The achievement is another historic milestone for Swift. At 36, she is the youngest woman ever inducted into the Hall of Fame and the second-youngest inductee overall. Only Stevie Wonder received the honor at a younger age when he was inducted at 32 in 1983.
