Fans hoping to see Robert Pattinson return as Gotham’s Dark Knight sooner will have to wait a little longer. The Batman Part II has officially been pushed back once again with Warner Bros. announcing a new release date of February 18, 2028. While another delay may disappoint fans, the studio says the extra time will allow director Matt Reeves and his team to complete post production work without rushing the film.
The sequel has already seen multiple release date changes over the past few years.
The Batman Part II Gets A New Release Date
The sequel was initially expected to arrive on October 2, 2026, but the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023 forced Warner Bros. to revise its plans. The film was then moved to October 1, 2027.
Now, Warner Bros. has confirmed that The Batman Part II will instead open in theatres on February 18, 2028.
Director Matt Reeves made the announcement by sharing the film’s new release date alongside the first camera test footage of Robert Pattinson returning as Batman on social media. He captioned the clip with, “PART II,” followed by two bat emojis.
Why The Extra Delay?
According to Warner Bros., the latest schedule change gives the filmmakers additional time to complete post production. The project had already faced production setbacks after work was affected by the Hollywood strikes.
Earlier, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn defended the long wait between the first film and its sequel.
“To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” Gunn wrote on Threads while comparing the film to franchises such as Alien, Avatar, Top Gun and The Incredibles.
What Else Changed At Warner Bros.?
The release shuffle wasn’t limited to The Batman Part II. J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sci fi fantasy film The Great Beyond, starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, has moved to October 1, 2027.
Warner Bros. also shifted Panic Carefully, directed by Sam Esmail, from February 26, 2027 to April 9, 2027. Meanwhile, horror title Revenge of La Llorona will now release on February 26, 2027.
