Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has crossed a major milestone even before arriving in theatres. Just ahead of its July 17 release, the epic fantasy adventure has earned a 98 per cent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. With this, The Odyssey becomes the highest-rated film in Nolan’s career on the review platform so far. The early score has also put the film ahead of fan favourites like Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight and Memento.

The Odyssey Becomes Christopher Nolan’s Highest Rated Film

With close to 60 reviews published so far, The Odyssey currently holds a 98 per cent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has also moved ahead of several major releases this year such as Project Hail Mary (94 per cent), Obsession (94 per cent), The Sheep Detectives (95 per cent) and last year’s Sinners (97 per cent).

What Are Critics Saying About The Odyssey?

Most critics have praised the film for the actors’ performances and visual storytelling.

Matt Neglia of Next Best Picture described the film as “as big as stories and movies can possibly get in this day and age.”

Aaron Neuwirth of We Live Entertainment also praised the film as he highlighted how Nolan balances blockbuster spectacle with thoughtful storytelling and strong performances.

Louisa Moore of Screen Zealots called the film “rich, immersive, visually astonishing, emotionally devastating, and endlessly entertaining.”

Not every review was entirely positive. Edward Douglas of The Weekend Warrior felt the pacing, darker scenes and sound mix occasionally affected the viewing experience while Alexander Zalben of Comic Book Club praised the cast but felt some dialogue did not land as well.

Allison Rose of FlickDirect described the film as “epic, beautifully crafted Nolan storytelling,” though she believed a shorter runtime could have made it even stronger.

Meanwhile, Nate Adams of The Only Critic called The Odyssey “a spectacular achievement.”
