Tobey Maguire could be heading back into the Spider-Man suit for another major Marvel multiverse event, and this time, the character may be involved right from the opening moments of Avengers: Doomsday. A new report has claimed that Marvel Studios had an ambitious plan for Maguire’s Peter Parker with the opening sequence potentially bringing him face to face with the X-Men.
The details come an industry Q&A involving scoopster Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus. According to Perez, Marvel’s original intention was to show Maguire’s Spider-Man and his rogues’ gallery fighting against the X-Men at the start of Avengers: Doomsday. But it remains unclear whether the sequence stayed the same through production.
Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man To Fight The X-Men In Avengers: Doomsday?
When asked about the planned opening scene, Alex Perez said, “I can confirm that the intent was to show Spider-Man and his rogue gallery fighting off against the X-Men in the opening sequence of the film. However, I don’t know if they ever got the chance to bring the villains in for the sequence and just left it to Peter #2 alone.”
Perez also raised a question about how the sequence would work if other characters were already involved with Maguire’s Spider-Man.
He added, “Because the thing is, if Peter #2 is busy entertaining Deadpool and Wolverine… who are the X-Men ‘fighting?’”
The report does not confirm that this version of the opening will appear in the finished film. Instead, it suggests that this was the reported intention at one stage, with the sequence potentially having changed during development.
Another Major Hint Puts Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man With Deadpool & Wolverine
A separate report from Cosmic Book News has made an even bigger claim about the beginning of Avengers: Doomsday. According to an alleged plot leak cited by the publication, the film could open in New York City but not the New York that belongs to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
The report claims the opening takes place on the Earth of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man from Sam Raimi’s original trilogy. It also alleges that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine enter Maguire’s universe as part of a mission connected to the Incursion storyline from Deadpool & Wolverine.
Cosmic Book News has described the plot details as an alleged leak and specifically noted that Marvel Studios has not commented on them.
That means there are currently two separate reported versions of how Maguire could fit into the opening. One, attributed to Alex Perez, talks about Spider-Man and his villains facing the X-Men. The other alleges that Maguire’s universe is where the film begins with Deadpool and Wolverine entering the picture.
Tobey Maguire Already Returned To The Multiverse In Spider-Man: No Way Home
Maguire’s reported involvement would not be completely new territory for Marvel. His return to the Spider-Man universe was one of the biggest moments of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The 2021 film brought together three live action versions of Peter Parker when Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield appeared alongside Tom Holland. Maguire reprised his role as the Spider-Man from Sam Raimi’s trilogy while Garfield returned as the Peter Parker from The Amazing Spider-Man films.
Their arrival allowed Marvel to directly connect different Spider-Man universes within the MCU, with Holland’s Peter interacting with the two older versions of the character. No Way Home eventually became one of the biggest films of its time and earned more than $1.9 billion worldwide.
Tobey Maguire Might Be In Both Avengers: Doomsday And Avengers: Secret Wars
The FandomWire report also cited Perez on Maguire’s future in the two upcoming Avengers films. When asked whether Tobey’s Spider-Man survives Doomsday and Secret Wars, Perez did not reveal his fate but confirmed that Maguire is expected to appear in both movies.
He said, “That’s a question best served for another time. But I can confirm from sources he’s in both movies.”
This means the reports are not only pointing towards a possible Doomsday appearance. They also claim that Maguire’s Spider-Man has a role in Avengers: Secret Wars which is expected to continue the multiverse storyline.

The film features Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom alongside Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, David Harbour, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Kathryn Newton, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
The combination of MCU characters, Fantastic Four stars and returning X-Men actors has already made Doomsday one of Marvel’s most closely watched upcoming releases.
