Tony Awards 2026 Nomination List: The Lost Boys And Schmigadoon! Lead Nominations With 12 Nods Each

There are quite a number of things being said after the nominations for the 79th Annual Tony Awards have come out. In honor of some of the greatest moments in the season of 2025-2026 at Broadway, there will be an array of nominations involving sweeping musicals, highly awaited play revivals, as well as fierce competitions among different categories. The most successful among the nominations this year include The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon!, each earning a staggering 12 nominations!

The Powerhouse Musicals

Musical nominees for this year are mostly made up of adaptations and revivals which make the contest very exciting but also difficult to predict. The Lost Boys (12 Nominations): This stage adaptation of the famous 1980s vampire film with music has earned it many nominations including that of the highly sought-after category, Best Musical.

Schmigadoon! (12 Nominations): Having been adapted from television to stage, Schmigadoon! was right behind The Lost Boys when it came to number of nominations and tied with it in getting 12 nominations including the Best Musical and the Best Book of a Musical nominations. Ragtime (11 Nominations): As one of the musical revivals of the year, Ragtime received 11 nominations and is a leading contender in Best Revival of a Musical.

Hefty Drama Plays and Revivals
Among plays, old-fashioned drama from America is leading the show. In terms of non-musicals, this highly acclaimed version of the Arthur Miller play ranks number one.

Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman” (Nominations: 9): This hefty revival took the drama awards by storm.

Star-Studded Acting Categories

For the acting categories at the 2026 awards, the competition among Hollywood A-listers and beloved Broadway actors will be extremely tough, promising great entertainment for viewers. For the Lead Actor in a Play award, we have Will Harrison, Punch, Nathan Lane, Death of a Salesman, John Lithgow, Giant, Daniel Radcliffe, and Mark Strong competing against each other. On the other hand, the Lead Actress in a Play race includes Rose Byrne, Fallen Angels, Carrie Coon, Susannah Flood, Lesley Manville, and Kelli O’Hara.

The same is true when it comes to the acting categories for the musicals. Among the nominees for Lead Actor in a Musical include Nicholas Christopher, Luke Evans, Joshua Henry, Sam Tutty, and Brandon Uranowitz. As for the Lead Actress in a Musical category, viewers will get a chance to see the competition between Sara Chase, Stephanie Hsu, Caissie Levy, Marla Mindelle, and Christiani Pitts.

Notable snubs included Lea Michele and Kristin Chenoweth, despite the packed season for these stars who are known best on the screen and the stage. The two actresses are scheduled to appear on the show this year; however, neither received an individual performance award nomination.

Given the even match between the creative and technical categories—with fierce competition across all three in Choreography, Orchestrations, and Scenic Design—the 79th Annual Tony Awards are bound to be an incredible showcase of perseverance and creativity within the theatrical community.
