The television industry seemed kind of shaken after actor Rohit Chandel, who’s mostly known for Pandya Store and Kashibai Bajirao Ballal, was arrested by Mumbai Police. The 29-year-old man was put in custody from his Dahisar place, following what police say was a serious complaint lodged by a 16-year-old girl. After the complaint came in, authorities moved pretty fast, arrested him and later presented him before a special court, which then sent him to police custody.Â
Case Registered Under The POCSO Act Along With Charges Of Stalking, Harassment And Assault
After the complaint was filed, the police promptly registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The Pant Nagar Police also added charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including stalking and voluntarily causing hurt. It says Chandel kept calling and contacting her, over and over, using his personal number and also some other phone numbers too, which in turn caused her a lot of distress. The complaint goes on to allege that on July 5, he showed up near her residential building, confronted the girl there, then chased her around, had a heated argument, and verbally abused her, and the filing also claims that he assaulted her by hitting her.
Police Continue Probe While Awaiting Further Developments In The Case
The police are still going over the matter and collecting additional evidence, like checking the CCTV footage from the area where the incident supposedly happened. They’re also taking down the victim’s very detailed statement, just to shore up the case.
